Cycling: Edgar could lose team sprint place to Kenny

ROSS Edgar, one of two Scots in the British cycling team, could be dropped from Friday's team sprint. Edgar, who has been a mainstay in the last two seasons, helping them to two world championship silver medals, faces major competition from Jason Kenny, the 20-year old who was a late and surprise inclusion in the squad.

Kenny hadn't been expected to make it to Beijing, being tipped instead to shine in London in four years. But in a specially arranged trial at the start of July, in which he faced Craig MacLean and Jason Queally, he produced a performance that was described by those present as "world class". It meant that the experienced pair of MacLean and Queally missed out, with Kenny nabbing the final available place in the sprint squad.
