Police arrest Barton

NEWCASTLE midfielder Joey Barton was last night in police custody in connection with an allegation of assault.
He was one of three people arrested in Liverpool in the early hours of yesterday.

Barton had to miss Newcastle's game at Wigan on Boxing Day due to an ankle injury, and he is believed to have travelled to Liverpool for a night out in the city.
