WBO executive co-ordinator Doris Companys has confirmed that interim super-featherweight champion Alex Arthur will learn this weekend the outcome of purse bids for his challenge to Joan Guzman.
Reports yesterday claimed that, despite Arthur's insistence a decision would be reached this week, no announcement was imminent over the staging of a proposed world championship bout between the Edinburgh boxer and champion proper Guzman.

However, speaking from the WBO headquarters in Puerto Rico, Companys explained: "Our president Francisco Valcarcel and the person in charge of our ratings have both been out of the country but will be returning this weekend.

"The purse bids for Alex Arthur's challenge to champion Joan Guzman will be decided by this weekend."

Arthur said today: "I stand by my statement that the decision over where and when I will fight Guzman will be decided this week by purse bid."
