EDINBURGH CAPITALS playcaller Doug Christiansen will read the riot act in training tomorrow after back-to-back weekend defeats.

The American is angry at the players' inability to keep cool in the weekend double-header with Coventry Blaze. The reigning Elite League champions won 6-3 in Edinburgh and 6-2 last night in The Midlands.

But Christiansen felt Capitals lost their d
iscipline in both games. "Everybody will get the message on Tuesday," he warned.

Christiansen is also concerned that his men have played six matches in eight days.

Last night, Blaze made it five wins from their last six and completed a weekend double over Capitals with a come-from-behind win at The Skydome.

Their powerplay scored four times and Christiansen said: "You can't kill penalties against them.

"If you take penalties you hurt the team and everybody will be given the message."

Skipper Martin Cingel fired Capitals into a shock lead after 72 seconds but a powerplay goal by Sylvain Deschatelets levelled in the second minute. However, defenceman Joe Dustin edged the visitors ahead just over a minute later.

In the second period, Capitals hit-man Mark Hurtubise was thrown out on a game misconduct after 31 minutes 35 seconds..

The home side took full advantage and powerplay goals by Barrie Moore at 30:22 and Deschatelets with 30 seconds left on the period saw Blaze lead 3-2 at the second interval.

Capitals' resistance was broken when Carlyle Lewis scored Blaze's fourth straight powerplay goal at 44:29 and further strikes for the home side came from Adam Calder in the 57th minute and Leigh Jamieson with 42 seconds remaining.

Capitals were outshot 57-28, underlining the superiority of the Midlands combine who won 6-3 at Murrayfield on Saturday.

Leading points scorer Adam Calder bagged two and both sides opened their accounts with goals 26 seconds apart. A shorthanded strike by Dan Carlson put Blaze ahead 1-0 at 8:40 but defenceman Sean Perkins levelled on the powerplay.

Blaze took a lead into the second period with a powerplay goal by Russell Cowley in the 17th minute but a third straight powerplay counter from Mark Hurtubise saw the home side level after 23 minutes. Coventry then took control when Calder edged Blaze ahead for the third time at 35:55.

Further efforts by Greg Wood 14 seconds later and Calder at 37:50 on the powerplay saw coach Paul Thompson's men take a 5-2 lead into the second interval. Capitals' cause was not helped by the loss of newcomer Brad Bonella to a game misconduct for abuse at the time of the Blaze fifth goal.

They failed to reduce the gap until Perkins scored his second of the game in the 53rd minute.

It was too late to alter the result and former Capitals defenceman Ben O'Connor scored with less than three minutes left to secure the points.
