JIMMY Calderwood proved he is still the daddy in more ways than one as Aberdeen thrashed the Dutch Fourth Division side coached by his son, Scott, at the start of their five-game tour of Holland.
The Pittodrie manager was delighted with the first-half performance against DZC, in particular as they rediscovered their goalscoring touch.
Chris Maguire led the way as the striker, who recently signed a new three-year deal at Pittodrie, claimed
a hat-trick in the space of 26 first-half minutes. The first came in 13 minutes after the home defence failed to clear a Jamie Smith corner and Maguire lashed a 20-yard shot into the corner of the net.
Seven minutes later the youngster glided on to Lee Miller's knock-on from goalkeeper Bertrand Bossu's towering clearance and he raced past a defender to score with an angled drive.
Smith came close to lobbing the DZC goalkeeper from near the half way line before he set up Maguire's hat-trick from close range.
Maguire then turned provider as Miller made it four just before the interval. It was fitting that Smith, out for so long last season with injury, should complete the rout in 75 minutes after a neat one-two with substitute Darren Mackie.
Calderwood senior was pleased with his side's display, saying: "Scott is hurting at this defeat. I just shook his hand at the finish and never spoke, but we should have hurt his team an awful lot more. We were very good in the first half and it was all over by the interval, but then we became sloppy and could have lost a couple of goals."
