Pawlett picked for Scotland via new ruling

ABERDEEN youngster Peter Pawlett has become the second player to be selected for Scotland under the new schooling rule.

The 18-year-old has been called up for this month's Uefa Under-19 Challenge match against Germany in Paderborn.

The midfielder, who was born in Hull, has lived in Scotland for the majority of his life after moving to Banchory, Aberdeenshire with his family.

Fifa recently ratified an agreement which permits British passport holders to play for any of the home nations, provided they have been educated for at least five years in that country.

Celtic's Somalia-born striker Islam Feruz was the first to take advantage of the rule and made his Scotland Under-16 debut last month.

Pawlett made his debut for Aberdeen against East Fife in a Scottish Cup tie at Pittodrie last season and has become a key member of the first-team squad this season under Dons manager Mark McGhee.
