HIDDEN behind this week's faintly embarrassing whining about Saturday's card-happy referee is one fact: against our pre-season European place rivals Hearts, Dundee Utd and Hibernian, Aberdeen have gathered a solitary point. A wee bit yet to go under our new manager then.
Hibs' new boss – mooted for our hotseat by some Dons fans after the Jimmys' exit – is having a better time of it. Yogi Hughes may talk like a man who'd struggle to beat a potato at noughts and crosses, but he is plainly a decent manager.
That the Dons more than matched the current Old Firm-splitters on their own patch until the sendings off shows McGhee doesn't have too far to go with this team though. By the turn of the year, we should be a different proposition – no panic-button pressing going on by a long chalk.
