Wright on brink of Aberdeen switch

ABERDEEN have agreed to sign Tommy Wright from Darlington in a £75,000 deal as long as the striker passes a medical early next month.
The player travelled to Pittodrie yesterday and was happy with the personal terms offered but a knee problem means the formalities could not be completed. Wright is still recovering from surgery carried out at the end of last season to repair the damage and is not fit enough to pass a medical at the moment.

He will compete his rehabilitation with the English League Two club with the aim of finally moving to Aberdeen the week before the SPL season gets underway.

"Our doctor has had a look at him and we need to wait until the boy has recovered completely from the surgery to complete the formalities," said Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood.

#3 - Don't think many know much about him. Think he managed to be Darlington's top scorer last season despite a few long lay-offs. If he's injury-prone, he'll fit in well with the rest of our strikers.

Credit to the Aberdeen board for backing their manager. Mulgrew and McDonald are very shrewd signings as well.

couldn't agree more. it is shocking. he is one of the richest men is scotland, but also one of the tightest by the looks of it. mind you and lets be honest here. if i was mega rich or even slightly rich, the last place i would put my cash would be into a football team.

Mulgrew has done absolutely nothing down south. At United, he had a cracking free kick but woeful defence. Interesting to see if that's changed. Kerr is average, so very Nicholson-esque. Darlington lad as a replacement for Lovell? Who cares!

What does Calderwood do, by the way? Wait for Levein (or various managers at United before him) go scouting, and try to get a scent? Miller, Duff, Kerr, Mulgrew . . . they never go to Aberdeen as first choice do they?
