NEITHER side merited a winner in this game, although both will take small plus-points from the performance. Ross County now extend their undefeated run to three, while Airdrie, with back-to-back clean sheets, are showing form which could save them from relegation.
Not that County didn't have their chances, striker Steven Craig twice finding himself through on goal. The first attempt on 18 minutes, after good build-up from Craig Brewster and Sean Higgins, was well saved by Stephen Robertson. The second chance r
ight on half-time saw Airdrie's Marc Smyth lose his footing and County player-coach Brewster sent in Craig to blast over the bar. Craig had earlier chanced a long-range effort, as did Brewster as County tried a more direct approach.
Airdrie had some decent set-plays, with a couple close to paying off as County keeper Derek Soutar was caught in two minds with Matthew Hazely's tempting corners. The Diamonds soaked up everything that was sent goalwards, but the occasional opening hinted at a breakthrough for the home side.
Higgins headed a Martyn Corrigan cross wide, and at the start of the second half Brewster controlled Corrigan's cross before firing from the edge of the box – but the shot was over.
Fans watched the game fizzle out, with both sides thwarted as they pushed for a goal. The last decent chance came as early as the hour mark, as County's Corrigan sent a high ball to the edge of the six-yard box but Higgins' low header did not trouble the Airdrie keeper.
