HUNDREDS of litres of alcohol were seized from the Tartan Army as they travelled by train to the weekend's World Cup qualifier at Hampden.
British Transport Police alone confiscated nearly 600 litres of drink. One arrest was made after an officer was assaulted at Montrose station, Angus.

The operation was part of a day of action targeting alcohol possession.

More than 1,100 litres of alcohol were seized in total, the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland said.

Posession of alcohol is not illegal. The police had no right to confiscate it.

20 years ago, this action would have led to a riot. Are we really all so dumbed down and sheep like now that we don't have the backbone to stand up for ourselves?

i dont understand why the tartan army seem to beleive they are above the law! Its illegal to drink on the streets of Glasgow and they should just have accepted the ban like everyone else has to...

The police can seize the alcohol under the powers conferred by the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 1995 (c. 39)

What more can be done to stop drunks congregating in the city’s streets?
The police should step up patrols and move them on
More use should be made of public drinking bans
Nothing, such people will always be with us
