CAPITAL star Allan Scott has chosen a low-key meeting in Loughborough tomorrow for his last-ditch bid to make the British Olympic team for Beijing in the 110 metres hurdles.
The A qualifying standard is 13.55 secs, so Scott needs to improve by .12 sec following his second place in the Aviva UK National Championships and Olympic Trials at Birmingham last Saturday if he is to make the team, having equalled his season's be
st of 13.67 in the trial.
Beaten there by England's Andy Turner, who had already achieved the A standard, Scott hopes to have his former training partner, the Scottish record-holder and Commonwealth silver medallist Chris Baillie plus England's Will Sharman to push him at Loughborough, but it is a big ask to achieve the time in these circumstances, especially in the changeable weather conditions now prevailing up and down the country.
"We looked at other meetings in Europe but couldn't be sure of the conditions or the opposition in the likes of Lucerne or Barcelona," explained Scottish's coach Stuart Hogg. "But at least running at Loughborough Allan will get two chances as there will be two races."
Glasgow 1500 metres runner Susan Scott hopes to run in Paris on Friday night in her bid to consolidate her one A standard time.
