LASSWADE athlete Greg Louden has booked himself a 400 metres berth in the British team for the World Youth Games in Brixen, South Tyrol, Italy, from 8-12 July, thanks to his two fine runs in the Scottish Senior Championships at Pitreavie last weekend, writes SANDY SUTHERLAND.
The Dalkeith High schoolboy, 16, knowing he had to better the qualifying standard of 48.25sec, not once but twice, to justify his place, responded by knocking 0.26sec off his best to qualify for the final in fourth place in by far the toughest of the
three heats in 48.17sec.

The following day, Louden, who is coached by Dave Finlayson, finished fourth in the final, but, though not quite as sharp, managed to hang on for another qualifying time of 48.23sec.

Capital schoolgirl Myra Perkins (Mary Erskine's) is also in the team in the hammer where she has reached 54.99 metres this season, well over the target distance of 53.00m.

Perkins finished second behind senior winner Susan McKelvie at Pitreavie last Saturday, responding well to being overtaken by Pitreavie's Mhairi Porterfield to regain the silver position with a throw of 54.13m.

Also in the team is Sarah Kelly, from Dundee, in the 1500m.

Edinburgh AC enjoyed a triumphant day out at the Scottish Junior Relay Championships amassing four gold medals and three silver at Pitreavie Stadium.

Highlight was the under-17 men's event where EAC A and B finished first and second, the A team setting a new championship best of 43.71 despite having to come from behind on the anchor stage.

The under-17 women also won as did the under-13 girls and the under-15 boys.
