CAPITAL high jumper Jayne Nisbet set her sights on medalling at next month's British Championships and World Trials after missing out on qualification for the European under-23 Championships this weekend.
The 20-year-old finished joint third at the England under-23 Championships and European Trials in Bedford yesterday as she fell short of the 1.86m qualifying standard needed for automatic qualification for the showpiece event in Lithuania next month.

Nisbet also surrendered the title she won 12 months ago, with British rival Adele Lassu taking that honour with a clearance of 1.82m – four centimetres better than the Edinburgh AC member.

But Nisbet vowed to bounce back by climbing the podium in Birmingham next month as the best in the business target World Championship qualification.

"I'm confident I can re-find my form," said Nisbet, part of the Lloyds TSB Local Heroes initiative. "I love events like this where the competition is high."

Lloyds TSB is providing £1,000 to more than 270 emerging young sportspeople identified each year across Britain, in the run up to London 2012 and beyond. Visit Lloydstsb.com/Localheroes
