COWDENBEATH took over at the top of the Third Division for the first time this season as they disposed of Berwick at Central Park last night.
The Fifers only made sure of victory in the closing minutes after Berwick had been reduced to ten men
when Stuart Callaghan picked up his second booking of the game to receive a red card for a foul on Cowdenbeath sub Graeme Brown. The Fifers who had gone in front in the first half through John Dempster sealed all three points to stretch their winning run to five matches when another sub, Marek Tomana, headed their second goal in the last minute.
Tomana was in the right spot to meet a cross from Brown to head home from 12 yards to give the home side a deserved win.
There was controversy about Cowdenbeath's 30th-minute opener. The ball broke to Mark Ramsay 30 yards out and he quickly slotted it through to Dempster who took it in his stride before firing a great shot high into the net from 16 yards.
Berwick claimed the goal was off-side and Callaghan was booked for his protests.
