PETERHEAD provided nine good reasons why Neale Cooper should be in charge of their play-off push.
The Aberdeen legend has been handed the managerial role until the end of the season after Steve Paterson was dismissed last week. But even the former Ross County and Hartlepool manager was stunned at the 9-2 win over Berwick Rangers.

"It was frigh
tening," said Cooper. "I had told the players to go out and enjoy themselves and the full-backs to push on. It was exciting and great to watch and I have to thank the players. We will not get many results like that, but they have now set a standard in terms of display and they have shown the quality that is here."

Peterhead hit five in the first 29 minutes with a Martin Bavidge double and one each from Bobby Mann, Stuart McKay and Callum Macdonald. McKay went on to complete his hat-trick and Rory McAllister also scored while Iain Diack netted twice for Berwick.

Ross County remain at the top of the table after coming from behind to claim a 3-2 win over Airdrie United.

The Diamonds went ahead after just 50 seconds when Kevin McDonald pounced on a rebound after goalkeeper Tony Bullock had blocked Allan Russell's penalty. Andy Barrowman equalised and Stuart Golabek gave County the lead before Airdrie levelled through Stuart Noble. But Barrowman headed the winner late on.

A looping header from David Templeton was enough for Raith Rovers to earn a 1-0 win at Queen's Park.

Brechin were left deflated after the single-goal defeat by Cowdenbeath at Glebe Park, where John Dempster scored from the penalty spot.

Ayr United opened up an 11-point gap on bottom club Berwick with a 3-1 win over Alloa Athletic where Alex Williams, Gareth Wardlaw and Ryan Stevenson were all on target. Dean Keenan's second-minute own goal had given the Wasps an early lead.
