BOWLS: Stewart Anderson from Auchinleck successfully defended his WIBC Under-25 World singles title at Portsmouth yesterday, winning the all-Scottish final at the expense of Blantyre's Brian Irvine to become only the second person to retain the title since Darren Burnett's four-in-a-row from 1998 to 2001.
Anderson, 24, burst into life midway through the opening set with a string of telling conversion shots that knocked the stuffing out of the talented Irvine, continuing his fine form in the second for a surprisingly comfortable 12-2, 16-0 victory.

In the women's final, Ardrossan's Michelle Cooper lost to Kerry Packwood from Wales.
