THE Scottish Cup hasn't had long to wait for company in the trophy cabinet at Bainfield with the indoor bowls team from the Hutchison Crossway stadium capturing the Cities & Counties silverware at Perth on Saturday.
Dunfermline side Abbeyview provided the opposition and a real cracker of a match saw the points shared 4-4 but Bainfield triumphed with a superior margin of 21 shots. Chris Steven and Gavin Smith were in superb form to skip the winning rinks for Bai
nfield and accrue 39 shots to cover the combined 18 lost by Stevie McLeod and Paul O'Donnell.

"Holding two major trophies aloft on successive Saturdays is a tremendous feeling and the fact they are a result of team play is the most pleasing aspect," said young team captain Craig Moss.

Bainfield accelerated from 4-4 on points and 36-36 on shots to a plus of 17 over the next four ends, the prime mover being the rink of Alan Trotter, Graeme McIntosh, Brian Stoddart and Gavin Smith who carded 16 shots without reply.

Smith had already been flying to lead Dave Yorkston 15-5 so his extended run of 5, 2, 5, 4 and 1 put him on the 32-5 mark and his final 34-15 win was a major contribution to the Bainfield effort. Chris Steven provided the early inspiration in the shape of a 1, 4, 1, 3 and 3 start to lead 12-0 and the young skip remained well in control to skip Craig Paterson, Neil Butters, and Craig Moss to a whopping 29-9 success over Paul Brown.

Tougher times for the rink of Chris Downie, Stuart Patterson, Darren Grant and Paul O'Donnell saw them 16-4 adrift of Stuart Pagan after ten ends. However, a run of 1, 2, 1, 1 and 1 closed the gap before losing 25-15.

Stevie McLeod and his rink of Scott Cumming, Gary Purdie, and Colin Hutchison lost eight ends on the trot to trail 14-4 after 12 and they continued to struggle against Alan Bernard, however a 5 at the 18th was timely.

McLeod's next count was a super 6 at the last to put an improved 26-18 complexion on his defeat.
