TRAMWAYS entertained high hopes of keeping their challenge for the Specsavers Opticians sponsored-Edinburgh Cup on track in last night's prelim round bowls action but the Division 4 leaders were derailed by Division 2 team Corstorphine 8-4.
Corstorphine's win owed much to a 100 percent record for their three away rinks while Tramways also did much better on their away leg.

The Sharp brothers, Alan and Brian, hit the highest winning note for Corstorphine at Tramways where, in conjunction with Jim Outerson and Willie Stoddart, they beat Tam Smith 24-9.

Ian Murdoch skipped David Tait, Frank Ross and Ron Clark to a 19-8 victory over Len Morris while Willie Aitken led Peter McShane, Ian Fraser and Tam Mitchell to an 11-10 triumph over Gary Taylor. Tramway's George Czemartin skipped Tam Hay, Jim Paterson and Ian Duffus to a 27-11 win over Ian Ferrier, and Donald Lawson grabbed an 18-15 victory against Davy Sutherland.

Corstorphine's David McNiven led Joe Blair, Sandy MacNiven and Bernie Callaghan to a handsome 21-8 win over Brian Duffus.
