THE Lothians will be represented in the second-stage finals of the national indoor bowls championships at Cumbernauld this weekend with West Lothian and Midlothian both double-handed.
The women's and men's championships will take place alongside each other and the combined event promises to attract a large crowd with some 19 clubs represented.

Wendy Archer already has the national singles title in the bag and the West Lothian
champion now brings her exciting talents into the arena in partnership with Angie Uttley in the pairs. Uttley currently holds the national outdoor title.

The West Lothian partnership face Carol Condy and Janette Bray of Coatbridge in the semi-final tomorrow (9.30am) while Ardrossan and Turriff are the other contenders for the title.

The West Lothian banner is also prominent in the men's pairs with holders Thomas Mann and Neil Speirs stepping up their bid for a back-to-back double against Paul Brown and Stuart Pagan of Abbeyview at 9.30am. The other semi final at 2.00pm sees Aberdeen face Blantyre.

Midlothian trio Jeanette Conlan, Sandra McLeish and Agnes Melrose face a hectic schedule as their 2.00pm semi-final against Galleon in the triples is preceded by a tilt at Galleon in the fours.

The Midlothian trio are defending the Fours title but one change sees Joyce Green coming in for Lorraine Grant. West of Scotland and Elgin are the other challengers in the triples while Stonehaven and Prestwick line up in the other semi-final of the fours.

The finals of the pairs, triples, fours and the men's senior fours take place on Sunday with a noon start which is subject to change if there is double representation.

• THE Edinburgh Bowling League, formed in 1996, hold their annual dinner tonight. The evening will feature the draw for the 2008 Edinburgh Cup sponsored by Specsavers while entertainment will be provided by Eric Davidson and John Gahagan.
