TIME will tell if a narrow 5-4 away win over newly-promoted Queensberry last night was a decent result for Parkside as the defending champions may have hoped for better in the opening match in Division 1 of the Alpha Trophies Edinburgh Bowling League.
Parkside posted wins on the rinks skipped by Robert Donaldson and Bob Ramsay and their combined shots surplus of 30 earned the bonus point for the visitors.

Queensberry, without several first-team regulars, were content with wins from the rink
s skipped by Alan Watson and Brian Pollard.

Donaldson's rink dominated the match zipping from 11-9 to 21-9 with a run of 3, 3, 2, 1, 1, then skipping Neil Watson, Davy Craig junior and Willie Watson to a 26-10 win over Frank O'Reilly.

Ramsay was the other Parkside hero dashing into a 12-3 lead then skipping Rab Gardner, Ian Kay and Darren Grant to a 22-8 success over Davy Johnston.

Queensberry's Alan Watson skipped Scott Walker, Val Bruce and John Kidd to a 27-19 win over Paul Veitch while Sean Burrell, JB Stewart, Colin Jones and Brian Pollard edged a 14-11 win over Alex Hurry.

Meanwhile, record six-times champions Tanfield beat double league winners Craigentinny 7-2.

Tanfield's three wins came from the rinks skipped by Mal Higgenbotham, Scott Wood and former West Lothian player Graeme Munro making his debut, while Andy Jeffrey kept the visitors on the map.

Tanfield were pleased with new signing Munro, who included a 5 at the tenth end as he skipped Calum Prior, Marshall Shearer and Stuart Campbell to a 22-7 success over Willie McDonald.
