PORTOBELLO Indoor Bowls Club crowned three new champions last night with first-time successes chalked up by Euan Murray, Jamie Reid and Harriet Munro in the men's, under-25 and women's singles respectively.
Murray, 29, grabbed the men's trophy after an 18-end battle against Colin Hairs which saw him recover from 6-1 down to go on and win 21-12.

Hairs led 7-2 before suffering a six-end slump that saw Murray storm to 16 with a run of 2, 3, 1, 1, 4, and
3 with the new leader drawing consistently well to a full-length jack.

Murray's run of form was halted by the loss of 1, 1, (1), 3 over the next four ends but picked up the trail with a 2 to 19-12 then hit 21 with a double at the next.

In the under-25 singles final, Reid, 16, faced John McDermott – already a title winner in the triples.

McDermott was quick out of the blocks to lead 6-0 (3, 1, 2), but Reid soon found his own stride and a run of 1, 3, 1, 3, pushed the youngster into an 8-6 lead.

The next eight ends finished peels at 12 before Reid produced three ends of magic that yielded 3, 2, 1, and moved to 19-13 in his favour.

However, McDermott fought back to 19-17 but Reid carded the double he needed to triumph 21-17.

The climax to the women's final was a real thriller with Harriet Munro clinching the title with a 21-18 victory over Helen Dougal.

Munro looked to be heading for a comfortable success when accelerating from 3-4 to 14-4 with a run of 4, 1, 4, 2, then she went on to have Dougal at her 20-9 mercy but Dougal fought back to 20-18 before Munro stole the show.
