BARRY Morrison's British light-welterweight title showdown with champion David Barnes has been called off after the Englishman suffered health problems.

Motherwell's Morrison, the former champion, was in line to face Barnes at Liverpool's Everton Sports Centre on Friday, 9 May.

But his Manchester rival has been forced to call-off after suffering a gum infection following the removal of a wisdom tooth.

Barnes was prescribed a course of antibiotics but failed to respond quickly to treatment.

Morrison's manager, Tommy Gilmour, said: "Barry is obviously bitterly disappointed but he is being philosophical about it and is still in full training.

"The fight will still take place at a later date and we are exploring our options for it to happen before the summer."
