Celtic cruised to a comfortable win over Hamilton at Parkhead to go top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League on goal difference over rivals Rangers.
The Ibrox side play their game in hand against St Mirren tomorrow but Gordon Strachan's men can be pleased with the way they responded to the Champions League defeat by Villarreal midweek, albeit against vastly inferior opponents.

Goals from Shuns
uke Nakamura and Georgios Samaras gave the home side a half-time lead and there was no way back for the SPL new boys who looked out of their depth for most of the game.

Scott McDonald grabbed number three in the 75th minute and after Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc had made a fine penalty save from James McArthur, as well as the header from the rebound from the Accies midfielder, Aiden McGeady slid in the fourth to complete the visitors' misery and erase the memory of El Madrigal.

The home fans were in their seats less than a minute when Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink clashed with Accies left-back Brian Easton, the Dutchman hobbling off to be replaced by top scorer Samaras.

Amid a subdued atmosphere, Celtic may have had a penalty in the ninth minute when McGeady was clumsily challenged close to the byline inside the box by Easton but referee Steve Conroy ignored the appeals. In the 15th minute Barry Robson's searching cross was met by Samaras pulling away at the back post.

The Greece international's close-range header was knocked up in to the air by Accies goalkeeper Tomas Cerny before defender Martin Canning cleared for a corner which the visitors survived.

Japan international Nakamura eventually broke the deadlock in the 25th minute with a fine volley.

McGeady picked the ball up from Samaras on the right and drilled a cross to the back post, the ball evading David Elebert to be controlled almost effortlessly by Nakamura before he volleyed past Cerny from around six yards.

As the champions turned the screw, McDonald came close when he accepted a Mark Wilson cut-back 16 yards out and smartly drove a right-footed shot against the inside of the post, the Lanarkshire side happy to escape again.

However, the respite was short-lived and in the 37th minute Billy Reid's men fell further behind when Nakamura squared to Samaras who sidefooted the ball from 16 yards past Cerny with some precision and power.

Two minutes before the interval David Graham was robbed by McDonald, allowing McGeady to burst into the Accies penalty area but his carefully-placed shot lacked the pace to beat Cerny.

Accies looked a broken team as they sloped off at the interval and Reid made two changes in personnel within a tactical reshuffle.

Mark Corcoran and Stephen Ettien replaced Chris Swailes and Derek Lyle with Simon Mensing moving to right-back.

The champions were relentless, initially, in their quest for the third goal and the Lanarkshire men struggled to get out of their own half.

In the 55th minute a Nakamura drive was deflected by Mensing for a corner which came to nothing.

The tempo had dropped to the extent that Accies moved up the pitch for the first time, the move ending with Corcoran heading a McArthur cross over the bar.

On the hour mark, to the displeasure of the home fans, McArthur drove forward to the edge of the box before driving wide of the far post. In the 75th minute McDonald grabbed the third goal after McGeady had slipped him through at the edge of the Accies box.

Canning looked to be favourite to win the race but the Australian international collected the ball in the challenge through sheer strength and determination before he curled his drive past Cerny.

A couple of minutes later, out of the blue, Hamilton were awarded a penalty after Gary Caldwell was adjudged to have brought down James McCarthy in the box.

But Boruc raised the roof when he made a fine double save from McArthur, the first from the initial penalty and then when the Accies midfielder had followed up the rebound with a header.

Eight minutes from the end, Shaun Maloney, on for Samaras, then brilliantly set up McGeady to slide in number four.

On the domestic front at least, Celtic remain impressive.

I had the jamtarts to draw, the only thing that saved me was United 2-1 had the correct score. Fancy the Gers tomorrow for 2-0

9 Tim

I thought the tic had a decent first half vs Villareal.
Thought there was only one team in it the 2nd half.

Got to be happy with that performance and scoreline.

Good freeflowing football with an end product and plenty of options in the squad.

Marc Crosas looks a real find and is getting better and better with every game . Looks like we've unearthed a gem here.

Oh and Boruc shows why he's still the number one keeper in the country.

good performance against a poor hamilton side...love the bile that spills from peter martin on radio clyde..it seems his nose is still out of joint as strachan sees him as a parasite like the rest of them..his description of lee naylor as "woeful" against villereal shows him up for the small minded wee man he is..glad to see davie provan stick up for naylor..who is having a good start to the season..although robson was good there today...xxx

Its all personal.
I watched Celtic against Rangers and they were nowhere near good enough to compete with Rangers. I watched Celtic vs Aberdeen highlights and saw a Celtic side short on ideas and low on confidence.
I watched Celtic vs Villareal and thought the Glasgow side were unlucky. Celtic played well and but for the silly free kick they would have taken a point from the game. McDonald's attempt was glorious and it came from a terrific move - Celtic are a good side!
Today was always going be 4, 5 or 6, its only Hamilton.

I dont know who will win the league but so far Rangers look the best team in Scotland...And since they won 4-2 at Celtic Park it is difficult to argue with their superiority thus far.

I'm sure you wont be surprised to hear I disagree. Rangers deserved their win at CP but Celtic certainly were not "nowhere near good enough to compete with Rangers. Rangers had one of those days when everything they hit went in the net. More of a case to call it a freak result in my opinion.

Since then they have huffed and puffed their way to a few single goal victories at home. Against Kilmarnock and Motherwell at Ibrox I thought they struggled badly.

Celtic on the other hand are playing well and scoring goals 4 yesterday, 4 at Motherwell and 3 at Kilmarnock and a decent performance in midweek albeit the wrong result.

I watched the game live on Setanta. At times it looked like Celtc had 22 players on the park. Wait, they did...Hamilton played like Celtc reserves in disguise - they didn't try a leg. Absolutely pathetic.
Rangers to win 5-0 today and romp the SPL by Christmas. Can't wait for the next freak result when we pump ra tic at Ibrox..

Celtic reserves are going for their 8th league title in a row. hamilton could play like them only in their dreams.

Rangers to grind out another brain numbingly dull single goal victory punctuated by more "cultural tradition" from the travelling support.

You either have a short memory or selective one. What was the Hibs v Rangers score last week.

Against Hibs last week was the exception to the Rangers rule. Hibs were very poor but still missed a catalogue of chances.

Back to normal service today with Rangers losing to the bottom club in the SPL.

Rangers inability to consistently win aay from home will cost them again this year. If Celtic can avoid a mid season slump like last year we will be on easy street come the new year.

I suppose the 4-2 humping of the tic at their ground was an exception as well. 0-3 at ER. 0-1 away to Falkirk, our away form has not been that bad.

Remember a relative referee of a former Parkhead official helped you're lot beat the Saints at Parkhead by the odd goal.

We were beaten today and deserved it, ICT up next for you away should be sticky tie.

Rangers played well at CP and deserved to win. However since then their form has been patchy. Rank rotten against Kilmarnock and Motherwell, better against Hibs.

Away form cost Rangers the title last year and will again this year. Mendes becomes more annonymous by the week and is well on his way to becoming the new Nuno Capucho.

I do remember Celtic beating St Mirren by the odd goal due to a clear penalty but fail to see the relavence of the Refs family tree. Unless you are implying he was cheating.

As for Kirk Clubfoots outrageous dive to attempt to win a penalty today, I'm sure it will be picked over for weeks to come by all and sundry. Gordon Smith, Fraser Wishart, Chick Young, anyone...
