Espanyol have confirmed they have reached an agreement for Japan midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura to join the Primera Division club on a two-year deal.
According to Espanyol, Nakamura is pencilled in to arrive in Barcelona on July 10, when he will take his medical. If all goes well, he will be officially presented just a few days before the team return for pre-season training.

Nakamura, who turns 31 tomorrow, had initially looked set to return to his former club Yokohama F. Marinos after his contract with Scottish outfit Celtic expired.

However, Marinos officials were informed yesterday by Nakamura's agent that the player had decided against returning to the J.League outfit and to move to Espanyol instead.

Nakamura is the second new signing Espanyol have secured in as many days, having yesterday snapped up teenage Israel striker Ben Sahar from Chelsea on a four-year contract.

See here's the thing - you're not. You've been reading the Scottish media haven't you ? Have you never heard Naka say anything? He did mentioned last year that he may prefer a season in a warmer climate before going home. Also, if Marinos had come up with the right deal he may have went home. Back to your comics, cheers Naka and especially for that goal last year against the rearrangers.

When things get a bit sticky down Parkhead way, the old "off to Japan" line gets rolled out. Old Blue Chip Lawell used it during his "sporting integrity" outcry the season before last. Extending the league will affect out Japanes tour he lamented. Guess what? The furthest east they got was Kircaldy. Now we have homesick Naka desperate to return to the bosom of his family - in Spain? Are Celtic fans the most gullable football fans in Europe? Probably!

@#1 : I am a Celtic fan, and I can assure you I have no problem with Nakamura. We've known for a while he wasn't going to extend his contract, and if he now wants to fulfill a long-held ambition to play in La Liga, more power to his left foot. I can't speak for all Celtic supporters, but I'd be surprised if there are many who are bothered about this.

If I find a Celtic fan who's bothered by it, I'll let you know. I might be in Amsterdam, but through many modern inventions (telephone, internet, etc.), I'm still in touch with what my friends and family in Scotland think.

If you knew Amsterdam, you'd know there's alot more to tthe place than getting drunk and stoned. We leave that to the tourists, mostly.

And by the way: it's Tuesday.

Nakamura has been saying since he joined Celtic(And before then too) that his professional ambition was to play in Spain. I'm happy that after the service he has given us he is now doing that. Thanks for some smashing memories and best of luck is all i can say.

So with a couple of EPL sides looking to sign Fortune, Celtic may miss out on their 2nd fortune in 6 weeks.

That we're losing our most skilful player is a blow to Celtic, certainly. But it's a blow we've known about for months, so why get upset about it now. And I'll repeat for the hard of thinking: it makes no difference if he goes to Spain rather than Japan; we knew he was leaving and we've already moved on.

As for who we will or won't sign, I'll leave the speculation to the Mystic Mugs like yourself. There's a new manager in place who's going to want to build his own team, and I can assure you he knows more about football than you or me (in fact, I think my goldfish know more than you).

If we lose out on Fortune because he'd rather play in the lower half of the EPL for more money then fair enough. I'd rather have guys committed to the cause and not someone who'll jump ship at the first opportunity of a quick buck. Sadly that limits the scope as to who we will sign.

It sounds as though we are being priced out of Fortune. Nancy saying they've received a number of bids in excess of £4m probably rules us out if it's true.
Still, Fletcher is still available...it would be a stunning double if Fortune and Fletcher signed, but even if we just get one it would constitute a big step forward.

Fortune's record is less than 1 goal every 4 games. We've enough of that sort at Parkhead. Ricardo Fuller would be a better signing.

Hopefully TM can galvanise the troops and bring in a couple of gems.

The less said about Naka the better.
