JAPAN midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura is set to join Spanish club Espanyol after Yokohama F. Marinos failed to complete a deal for the former Celtic player.
Marinos officials held a one-hour meeting with Nakamura's agent yesterday, during which they were informed of the player's decision.

"We have been told by his agent that Nakamura has decided to go to Espanyol," said Marinos spokesman Masanori Hak
amada "He said he (Nakamura] was in two minds – Marinos or Espanyol – but decided to play in the Spanish League, where he has wanted to go for a long time."

Nakamura looked certain to return to his former club after his contract with Celtic expired as the Japan international had talked frequently about moving back to his homeland. According to Japanese newspaper reports, Marinos failed at the final stage of negotiations which led to Nakamura contacting Espanyol after having previously turned down an offer from the Catalan club, who finished 10th in the Primera Liga last term. Nakamura, who turns 31 tomorrow, also felt it would be beneficial for him to play in Spain with next summer's World Cup in mind.

Meanwhile, Steven Fletcher will ignore speculation that he is set to move to Celtic, according to his agent, Scott Fisher.

The 22-year-old striker was subject of a failed by the Parkhead club in January and with former Easter Road manager Tony Mowbray having taken over at Celtic, fresh reports have emerged linking Fletcher with his former mentor, despite having four years left on his contract at Hibs. However, Fisher said: "John Hughes is looking to speak to all of his players over the next couple of weeks and Steven will be one of them sitting down to talk to him. No matter what happens, Steven will remain fully focused on the job in hand.

"There was a lot of speculation over his future in December and January, yet he showed in the second half of the season how focused and committed he was.

"He scored goals against all of the top teams in the League and gave 100 per cent.

"He wants to make sure that his career is going in the right direction. He has been with the club since he was 17 and he is now a full international player. He's ambitious and wants to become a regular starter for Scotland."

So much for all that " He's only leaving because he's homesick".

It seems the irresistible pull of the OF only works in Scotland. The only thing big about the OF is their heads.

All those Japanese reporters must be happy, they get to live in Spain now. :-)

Are Celtic serious? Signing Fletcher? He is ROTTEN. He is a nightmare performer for Hibs, average, cant control a ball, no pace, ugly and frankly worth no more than a packet of midget gems. Scottish football is rubbish, get real and invest in the kids, develop them properly and we will have a national team to be proud of in 15 years

I suppose 23k a week and a 2 year deal is a great cure for being homesick.

Cheers Naka. I'm not fussed who you got to, you have done us proud and earned your right to play where and when you chose. Should've had the No 7 jersey for a while though.

After a slap in the face from Nacka, Celtic fans have received another blow with Scott Browns ankle injury.
Out for a minimum of 5 weeks he'll miss the CL qualifiers. So will Mowbo sign a quality replacement or will be try to lure Paul Hartley back from Greece?
Knowing Celtic it'll be the cheap option.
2 in a row!

#3 why is Fletcher being ugly an issue? Surely that makes him a perfect match for McGeady (who meets all the other criteria too apart from not being able to control a ball - although he very rarely does anything useful with it once he has it)

On a marginally more serious point, I'd still take Fletcher over JvH or Ladyboy, who were hilariously ineffective last year. I think Fletcher and McDonald would actually be a pretty good front pair.

Espanyol - the ONLY team Nakadmota ever wanted to play for. LMFAO
At least we'll no longer have to put up with him diving for free kicks every time he crossed th half-way line at Ibrox. Which wasn't that often...

So much for Mr Lawwell's great business nous. Firstly paying Balde for 2yrs of SFA. Then having to pay through his nose for Mowbray & his hangers on - note no disclosure. Now Naka's going for free after a year of nothing much. Is this what they call Celtic-minded business dealings? Hope he's on a bonus for all his good work.

#16 Todd: Were Celtic not looking at Hermann Hreidarsson? Celtic need to rebuild & fast, because your CL qualifier looms large.
Champions Rangers meanwhile enjoy the summer laughing at Celtics attempts to sign ahem.."blue chip players".
Surley Blue Chip & Dr Greenbacks days must be numbered.
Come the end of next season their tea will truly be oot.

Good luck Naka, cheers for some great goals and plenty of trophies. Best player in Scotland for the last 4 years, even though he spent half that time playing with injuries and a lack of good players in the same side.

The penny will have dropped for big T.
Fortune will cost a fortune which CFC cant affored.
Knaka sees the writing on the wall & clears off.
Brown has a serious ankle injury which requires surgery.
Celtics plan to set up a Hungarian feed club has been pied by Uefa because both clubs are likely to be playing in the Ueropa tournament.
Deary me, Big T's only been in post 5 minutes & its going pear shaped.
