The Scotsman continues its weekly Fanzone feature, where supporters of all 12 SPL teams give their views on the state of their clubs.
ABERDEEN

AFTER the magic of taking three points from our final visit to Love Street, and the 'Sone Delight' of transfer deadline day, it is a bit of an anticlimax to have an international break.

Still, it gives us time to refle
ct on the team's recovery from the worst start to a position three points off the top of the SPL. This is thanks to a 100 per cent away record that is a huge turnaround from last season, when we had worse form on the road than Richard Hammond.

And Willie Miller and Jimmy Calderwood proved again that they are the sorcerers of deadline day. While our message-board was distracted with thoughts of potential car-crash signings Gow or Riordan, the crafty gaffers conspired to pull Aluko from the hat.

This even trumps the previous transfer window trickery that brought in Stevie Crawford and Lee Miller, and if Sone finds top form he could be the first box-office player Pittodrie has seen since Moroccan magician Hicham Zerouali.

CELTIC

SUNDAY saw a few surprising and some not-so-surprising incidents.

The surprise was Artur Boruc uncharacteristically miss-kicking and throwing the ball away. At least three of those goals were preventable and even Mendes' strike should have been closed down if we hadn't persisted in backing away from our opponents.

The not-so-surprising was the battering ram technique and flying elbows of Cousin, the guy who previously hospitalised McManus. While the referee apparently called most incidents fairly, why did it take so long to spot the elbows? He sent Caldwell to the sidelines for treatment after one incident so must have been aware of what happened.

Other unsurprising categories were the persistent and disgusting songs of the visiting support, who then had the audacity to be offended by Artur waving a digit in their direction, poor souls. It was a hard lesson but if we learn from it, we will still go on and clinch four in a row.

DUNDEE UNITED

MOST Arabs were left with a distinct feeling of 'deja blue' after Saturday's home defeat to Kilmarnock. Having proved to be something of a bogey team for United over the past few seasons, Killie once again came to Tannadice and performed a smash and grab raid to take the points.

After an early volley from Garry Kenneth rattled the crossbar, we dominated the first half of a fairly dour encounter but Kilmarnock took their only real chance of the half clinically – something they repeated in the second half to go two up. For a season that promised so much, we now find ourselves with a disappointing two points from a possible 12 with a tricky visit to Easter Road next up. It's time for the players to start living up to pre-season expectations and start putting points on the board.

Finally, United fans were deeply saddened by the tragic death this week of former Tannadice and Motherwell stalwart Jamie Dolan. Condolences to his family and friends.

FALKIRK

LOSING a fourth league game on the trot was not what Bairns fans were expecting, and a general air of gloom has descended. However, as many of our injury ravaged-side return to fitness I refuse to give up on the hope that we are still more than capable of turning things around.

Saturday saw us once again lose the type of goals that we just did not concede in the past two seasons despite a great display from our Under 21 Austrian keeper Robert Olejnik who is growing in stature week by week.

Up front young Mark Stewart again proved he could be our next great find with an exquisite and deft finish to put the Bairns ahead. Elsewhere Kevin McBride is beginning to show the kind of grit and enterprise he lacked when he joined last season, and Jackie McNamara is oozing class, while John Stewart is working his butt off to prove worthy of his place.

It'll be tough next time out visiting an ever-improving Jambos side, but remember what they say about Falkirk – expect the unexpected!

HAMILTON ACCIES

TRANSFER activity saw the signing of French midfielder Stephen Ettien from Lyon, American midfielder Mike Vidiera from Duke University, and young Ipswich defender Chris Casement on loan.

Accies' best bit of business was conducted on deadline day itself with the capture of former Ross County defender Martin Canning from Hibs, a player we almost signed last season when he left Gretna.

It beggars belief that Hibs have let a solid and reliable defender like Canning go, to then replace him with Sol Bamba, who should have been given a league winners' medal from Accies last season such was his contribution to our campaign every time we played Dunfermline!

Less positively, Accies have dismissed assistant manager John McCormack after only a couple of months in the job, leaving Billy Reid searching for his fifth assistant manager in just over three years at the club.

Hopefully the rumours are true and ex Accies favourite Andy Millen is on his way to New Douglas Park.

HEARTS

EVEN the most optimistic of Hearts fans could have struggled at the beginning of the season to envisage the impressive start we have made under Csaba Laszlo.

Apart from the League Cup exit at the hands of Airdrie, the first month of the campaign has come as a breath of fresh air for a support who had become accustomed over the past three years or so to our club being in a state of turmoil.

To be just a point off the top of the table after four games is incredible, and while not quite as heady as the George Burley days, this is easily the most buoyant period we have had since May 2006.

The only negative is that we didn't manage to bring in a couple of strikers before the transfer deadline, as the lack of firepower is clearly undermining the impressive style of football Laszlo is trying to encourage.

For now we will have to pin our hopes on Mike Tullberg solving our attacking woes, but any such concerns will soon subside if Laszlo can keep us on the victory trail.

HIBERNIAN

FORGET the defeat to Motherwell, forget the fact we only have four points from 12, and forget all the doom and gloom hanging over the message-boards like a dark cloud for the past week.

Yes, the speculation is finally over, Derek Riordan landed back at Easter Road this week, ending the Parkhead prison sentence imposed on him by the very irritating Gordon Strachan.

The joy which greeted the arrival of Deeks has certainly lifted the spirits of Hibs fans everywhere, and when added to the laughter generated by Hearts' pathetic attempt to sign him, it's almost made us forget last week's defeat. Throw in a raw but promising Sol Bamba along with the departure of Zibbi, Kerr and Canning, and it looks like Mixu now has his desired squad, so it's over to him to settle on a team capable of stringing some results together.

It would be churlish not to credit the board for backing Mixu with the cash for these signings, so hopefully Hibs can now concentrate and get the job done on the park.

INVERNESS CT

WELL, what a group of youngsters we have coming through at ICT now. Jamie Duff, Iain Vigurs and Gary Wood have been the stars of the week in the Highlands. All helped to dump Arbroath from the CIS Cup in midweek (Vigurs scoring the decisive penalty), and they performed brilliantly, along with the rest of the team, to secure three points at Falkirk.

Club captain Grant Munro is still missing with injury, and may find it hard to regain his place in the team, as will Russell Duncan. The back four including Duff held firm, Vigurs linked well in the midfield, while Adam Rooney is starting to show just what he is capable of by creating chances for Wood – and vice versa.

Craig Brewster is finally showing his tactical acumen, bringing on experience in the latter stages with some key substitutions that, without question, won us the match.

A job well done this week by the management and players. If we continue like this, we could well be top six come season close. Superb!

KILMARNOCK

WELL, for 24 hours we got to rib the Old Firm fans in Ayrshire about us being top of the league. While the Killie foot soldiers travelled to Dundee with no small amount of trepidation, the players had no such worries and put in another fine shift.

We are now officially the only team in the UK yet to concede a goal… and that's with a makeshift defence!

Kudos to big Fright (Frazer Wright] who was once again not to be beaten in the air.

We really seem to be gelling as a team now and the players are growing with confidence in every game. It was great to see even the players on the bench celebrating the win at Tannadice, which just goes to show how strong the team spirit is.

The strength and guile of our new midfield has been the difference as they support the front line and help out in defence and the league table shows that it is paying dividends already.

I know there will be tough times ahead, but our next game against Rangers can't come soon enough!

Barry Richmond

MOTHERWELL

MOTHERWELL have now made a public response to the charge imposed by Rangers and Celtic.

Last season the Glasgow pair made five visits to Fir Park. Assuming they sold 8,000 tickets for each game and then withheld a five per cent administration fee to cover their costs, they could have taken around £40,000 from our income. If they pulled off the same trick with the rest of the provincial teams then they could easily collect £400,000.

It's a great money-making scheme, for sure. Their greed and self righteous pomposity knows no bounds. The response from Fir Park is to add £1 to the gate price for visiting fans of the Old Firm. What else could they do? We can only hope that the anger of their fans is directed at the financial directors at Parkhead and Ibrox.

The correct long-term reply from the other ten should be taken at the next SPL annual general meeting when they should propose a motion which would outlaw such a charge.

RANGERS

MOST of us needed surgery to remove the smiles after Rangers battered their generous hosts on Sunday, and struggled to recall the last time we'd scored four times at Celtic Park.

Credit to Walter Smith for having the courage to play 4-4-2 and pairing Cousin up front alongside Miller, a gamble which paid off hugely.

In Pedro Mendes we have a new hero, a fulcrum oozing class and composure, and special mention to Steve Davis for his best showing yet in a blue jersey. That result should provide the springboard for the players and management to repay the Rangers support in the best possible way after letting us down with the Kaunas fiasco. The Rangers support out-sang seven times their number and backed their team magnificently.

A final thank you to Artur Boruc for his passable impression of a polo mint. Boruc proved once again by his infantile gestures that both he and his club are poor losers as well as ungracious winners.

ST MIRREN

IT SEEMS our goal spree against Dumbarton in the League Cup was a false dawn. Against Aberdeen on Saturday it was back to normal with no goals and no points for our efforts.

Quite how we managed to come away with nothing is anyone's guess. We dominated the first half and should have scored twice, only for Billy Mehmet to miss two golden chances. With his confidence high after his cup hat-trick you'd have expected him to bury them – instead we paid the penalty for his wastefulness. Aside from the cup win it's been a poor start to the season. One goal and one point is not a good return after four games and is even worse than our start when we were relegated back in 2000/01.

Things have to change. We need to be more clinical and stop making costly mistakes at the back. We have a decent squad, but the way things are going at the moment there's a real danger we could find ourselves playing First Division football in our first season at our new ground.

Hearts attempt to sign Riorden was no more "pathetic" than the attempts by Leeds and Burnley. Classic Hibee chip on shoulder stuff there from Mr Henderson. No other clubs were willing to pay the fee required to prise him away from a club that didn't rate him (plus the crazy huge sell-on clause, which has made signing him very much a non-investment - most un-Hibs like).

And no-one else was willing to risk a lot of money on someone who could go for free at the end of the season. What's funnier is Hibs fans criticising Hearts for going for loanees, including Riorden, when the reason it's taken so long for them to get Riorden is that Hibs tried desperately, desperately to get him on loan. Good signing for Hibs, but are 15 or 20 goals worth unsettling other players and decimating the wage structure...

Good business for Celtic - worked the system very well by leaking Hearts interest and panicking Petrie into action. Not sure about the fauxhawk though - so last season - looks like Beavis or is it the other one?

The most unsurprising thing is the sour grapes from the Celtic fan. The nonsense about Cousin, for example. He was harshly sent off, especially the first booking - ex-Celts Jim Duffy, John Hartson and Murdo McLeod have said so. The referee (who generally had a good game) seemed to cave in to the constant nagging of the likes of Caldwell and Brown.

What about Cousin's elbow on Caldwell's eye socket? No replays at all and yet every conceivable angle for all other incidents. Rfc deserved to win but that is nowhere near the drubbing being reported in some papers. Your 3-0 win last season was a much better victory than this one.

It's just that they thought their club was going right down the swanny 2 weeks ago that they have lost all sense of proportion .

Hilarious stuff. Rather than living in a state of denial you should take a good look at your team. A goalie who is overweight and has various self-control issues. A defence who were run ragged. A midfield who were played off the park.

Diappointing to note from the Celtic correspondent that the behaviour of the Rangers support is still at gutter level.

No delirium at all, the better team won on the day, and most unbiased football fans who watched the match would agree.

I thought the behaviour of McCoist and McDowall on Sunday was absolutely shocking after the Cousin red card. The camera showed an apoplectic McCoist, his face purple with rage and the veins sticking out of his head and his neck (if he had a neck that is) and cursing like a trooper. McDowall was screaming in the face of the 4th official. Why do managers and coaches insist on bullying the 4th official at times like this? What do they expect HIM to do? - run on and reverse the decision?

Anyway, McCoist won't be at Rangers come christmas if he carries on like that while carrying such a large amount of fat. He'll be in a box six feet under.

Take it easy Ally, and how about joining the players in some weight training?

Just thinking again about the Rangers support brought to mind my experiences over many seasons supporting Hearts home and away. I used to particularly enjoy the away games and the friendly banter you had with opposition supporters before, during and after the games.

All except Ibrox!!!

Visiting there, I was in a permanent state of apprehension and was always glad to get back out of the city. This was in sharp contrast to Celtic Park, Firhill, Shawfield and Cathkin.

The support at Ibrox (in the main), was so far down the evolutionary scale that it was truly frightening.

Sounds like nothings' changed.

I have seen 3/4 of the tic matches this season, I missed the Falkirk match. Can you honestly say that you're team is playing good football.

Do you not think that a couple of quality signings qould have helped you going into the CL?

I know Sammi and Maloney were resigned, but with the amount of money the tic have (as we are often told)spending a few more quid on player is the least 60k supporters at every home match deserve.

Not a word from the laptop loyal.

i see the celtic man complains about cousin, but no mention of venegoor, who i understand was sent of for kicking at an opponent, seems like celtic players are not all little angels after all.
i happened to be in a pub at the barras for the previous celtic rangers game as we were on holiday, i didnt make the mistake of saying i wanted rangers to win, and i can tell you that the celtic supporters there were worse than animals, the language and sectartian hatred stunned me as i came to nz as a kid in 1961, so any cetltic commentator who goes on about sectarian songs at the park i suggest that you get celtics house in order before you open your mouth.
if you feel that you are a neutral go along to the barras pubs next time celtic play rangers, go in and listen, but dont say that you are not a celtic supporter or the animals present will likely kill you, they would be a disgrace to any club

They ran amok, had more shots on target, the same off and MORE corners.

That was the shock.
The fact that Sir Wattie out tactic-ed strachan again was no surprise.

It is so easy to criticise Rangers fans for their vocals and it seems there is open season on them perhaps with some justification.

Worryingly, fans of other clubs don't seem to receive the same level of criticism for their songs. When Celtic FC play Irish rebel songs over the tannoy pre kick off such as Let the People Sing without comment then we wonder what is going on.

At the end of the day Celtic too have their nasty bigots just ask Nacho Novo. The difference is that Celtic and their followers are in denial of their complicity in the whole horrible situation.

I wonder when was the last time kiwidoug was at Ibrox (if indeed he's ever been)? Ibrox is a very peaceful place except for Old Firm games when things get heated on both sides. nothing will result from the sfa, these parasites want a quiet life, why would they put themselves through the hassle of going after hard targets like old firm supporters behaviour when they have easy targets like romanov to pursue?

Expansion strategy and cost savings.

What is the ABS strategy, the expectation is for growth but how? New markets/customers or sell more to existing customer base. There is no strong evidence of the former, and anyway what is the incentive to get new business in anyway rather than simply churn existing customers?

Some Celtic players had shockers on Sunday, the goal keeper was at fault for two of the goals and terrible marking for the other two.

The Gers deserved there win because they made the most of the chances they were given which is fair enough.

Having looked at the Pat Nevin analysis you can see why Cousin was sent off as well as VOH.

As for Celtic being in melt-down you must be joking! One good display does not win you the league, your squad is not stronger thqan last season (Hutton, Cousin, and Cuellar), while we will have a full season with Robson, Maloney is a good player and will deliver, and McDoanld will be back after injury, Boruc is unlikely to play so badly again, and Naka still proved he is the best dead ball player in Scotland. McGeady and Brown though have to step up to the mark but we know they can, and WGS may have to think again whether Mark Wilson has what it takes.

Yes Gers fans enjoy your victory, I'm still enjoying the fact that the Celts did so well in OF matches at the end of last season, we won the League, and we will be playing in the Champs League!

"British Transport Police release details of all football related arrests over the last year:

"Fans from seven SPL clubs were arrested: Rangers, Dundee United, Motherwell, Celtic, Hearts, Aberdeen and Hibernian, as well as fans from Cowdenbeath, Hamilton Academicals, Dundee, the Highland League's,
Clachnacuddin, and supporters of Chelsea, Manchester United, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Two Chelsea fans were arrested for possession of drugs, Manchester United appear on the list as one of their fans was arrested for Breach of the Peace at Motherwell Railway Station. The Cowdenbeath fan was
arrested for Indecent Assault, perhaps the most serious incident during the season.

Celtic, Motherwell, and Hearts each had four fans arrested during the season, Aberdeen and Hibs had three. Dundee United were the second highest offenders with six arrests, while an incredible 30 Rangers fans
were arrested, almost half of the season's total for all clubs. These figures do not include those arrested at the Manchester riot in May, which British Transport Police refer to in their press release"

Didn't UEFA tell Gordon Nice that if the sfa didn't start penalising Scotland's Shame for racist and sectarian behaviour by their fans, UEFA would intervene ?

Didn't that prompt Gordon Nice & Co to issue an admonition to rearrangerz for racist and sectarian singing at Inverness ?

Didn't Gordon Nice & Co then spend months trying to find some pretext to get Celtic into the dock in order to 'balance the books' ?

Having failed to make anything stick, haven't Gordon Nice & Co. decided to revert to their decades old 'non intervention strategy ?

Haven't Gordon Nice & Co. shown themselves to be averse to the implementation of UEFA's instructions ?

After the filth of Scottish society went into overdrive on Sunday, and the absence of any criticism or even acknowledgement of that by Gordon Nice & Co. , hasn't the point been reached when UEFA should say 'YOU'VE HAD YOUR CHANCE. YOU HAVE NOT FOLLOWED OUR INSTRUCTIONS. YOU HAVE TAKEN NO EFFECTIVE ACTION TO PENALISE THE BEHAVIOUR OF SCOTLAND'S SHAME. WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO INTERVENE ?

Neil Lennon may be poised to quit his job.

Artur Boruc suffers 90 minutes of sectarian abuse every time he plays ReaRangers and everyone of Irish Catholic descent is encouraged to go home by the hoardes of Raging Ranger Syndrome Sufferers.

Nothing said, nothing done:

"First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the communists
and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me -
and by then there was no one left to speak out for me."

Well done Scotlands media, well done the SFA,well done the players union.

Glad to see that Neil Lennon has found the inner strength to lodge his umpteenth complaint complaint of sectarian assault in Scotland.

The police have confirmed that they now regard it as a sectarian assault.

CCTV images of Ashton Lane at the time of the attack are now being studied and enquiries are continuing as police seek to identify the two sectarian cowards who attacked Lennon from behind by striking him on the head with a weapon.

After Lennon fell to the ground, the cowardly thugs kicked him unconscious, and potentially life-saving first aid was administered by an as yet unidentified member of the public.

I hope these cowards are traced. They will spend the next few years of their lives in Barlinnie in mixed company....some will want to shake their hand whilst others will want to cut it off.

It wasn't so long ago that every little laptoployalist worth his bowl of winalot was lambasting Celtic fans for singing a derogatory song about wife-beating, air-flutist, Paul Gasgoine's mental health problems.

Not the finest hour of some Celtic fans, perhaps, but then not an attack on a whole section of Scottish society either.

On Sunday, throughout the 90 minutes came numerous anthems expressing hatred towards Catholic Irish immigrant Scots, and the cat has got their tounges.

It seems that stirring up racial hatred is far less newsworthy, far less deserving of our disgust than poking a bit of fun at a drunk whose problems are down to the choices that he made himself.

I was disappointed with Celtic's showing on Sunday, but Rangers were the better team on the day. No complaint about the Mendez goal. Boruc at fault for 1 and 4, number 3 looked a bit dodgy. It looked like Cousin dragged Nakamura down before it was crossed over, but the Ref missed that one.

One complaint about the Ref was the sending off of van Hesselink. That was harsh, and only done in my opinion to appease the Rangers fans/bench. He flicked out a foot but Broadfoot overreacted. On the other hand, Cousin was at it all game with his elbow and nut and deserved to get the red card. Poor McManus looked shell shocked. Come on - this is football not WWE.

Celtic midfield should have stuck closely to Mendez. He looks good. Brown should have rattled him with a few sliding tackles! Also felt McGeady and Nakamura lost out to their opponents. Adam was Rangers best player, and it surprises me he doesn't play more often.

This defeat could be a blessing in disguise. Celtic now know what they have do if they want to win four in a row, and have plenty of time to get their act together, but my guess is we will concentrate on success in Europe. Bad defeat, but I'm confident Celtic are still the best team in Scotland.

Can't help but feel that if the January game had gone ahead it would have made Sundays fade into insignificance as the gap between the two teams at that time was soooo great.
Coming off their last game at Ibrox three goal down with two good ones knocked off. Add to this key celtic player bans and injuries over the weekend were given time to sort themselves out, celtic were also able to sort out their left back problem but most important of all, due to still being in all competitions, our fixture congestion was horrific.
The mind boggles at what the result could have been.

Last season, the rearrangerzfans assured us after a flooky 3v0 win awat to Lyon that they were heading for the last 16, that Celtic would be lucky to make UEFA and the title was as good as won.

This season, after a flooky 4v2 away win to the Champions, they're telling us the title is as good as won, and BTW, getting horsed by all and sundry during the business end of last season wasn't anything to do with them....and all this only a coupla weeks after they were about to launch a revolt against Minty , Walter and Ally.

Rearrangerz fans...more adolescent than teenagers...if they didn't exist, you'd have to make them up....well, that's taking things a bit far.

Im definitely not claiming that anything is won.

However, the difference is we have a far superior squad to last season wheras Celtc havnt improved. The fact we were so close to glory on four fronts and the fact that Celtc were 1 day away from disaster is what gives us confidence.

You would have thought after Celtc's lucky comeback late in the season that Liewell would have realised that Celtc needed streghthened. Apparently not.

You never answered me yesterday so il ask the question again.

Are you happy with Celtcs work in the transfer market particulalry Liewells refusal to fund a left back.

Not got time to read through the rest of the posts on here but i got to about number 10. My viewpoint on Sundays game is that had Maloney scored his effort 2 minutes before Miller got his first, it could easily have finished 4-2 to Celtic. Both defences are abysmal, and the best defensive performer on show was Davis at right mid. Both teams have a lot of points to drop and plenty of time for us to make it up.

Mendes is a decent player, but it takes more than just him to do anything. Defensively both teams have a hell of a lot to improve on. We should have done more in terms of strengthening the team, no question, and i do expect us to get horsed by Man U and Vilareal, but i hold no fears in the SPL. Robson and Hartley in the centre of the park will be strong enough to beat anyone in Scotland. Whether our defence keeps enough out depends on Boruc regaining his form. Both teams are in a very similar position right now, but i think we have more of an attacking threat(Odd statement to make given you just put 4 past us). Only good thing is we're forced to accept we are rubbish but a lot of Rangers fans and a lot of pundits are happily kidding themselves on that all is rosy again at Ibrox!

RFC have significantly improved what most punters thought was the teams big weakness last season, having a bit of quality in midfield.

And with that lack of quality only lost the league on the last day of the season.

The options this season on a full time basis is Mendes, Davis, Thomson, Ferguson, Edu, McCulloch, Adam, Lafferty, Aaron, Beasley, etc, etc.

We are far from the finished article but at least moves have been made to improve the squad and not just add bodies.

There will be points dropped by all clubs in the coming months, but looking at the early return on the signings RFC have made we can be optimistic on our chances of success in the SPL title chase.

With the lack of money spent on "blue chip" players at you're club how optimistic do you feel about the tics upcoming CL matches against other quality sides.

The one good thing is that you are guaranteed 6 CL matches and the cash windfall.

Breaking News.

Ranger’s fans are already celebrating that they have won the league after only four games; they are 3 points ahead of their great rivals Celtic. Gers fans feel they should be crowned champions already despite the fact Celtic have won the league three years in a row and the fact that the Gers were ahead for most of last season but still could not win the title.

Gers fans are also sure that the Celts will do badly in the Champs League despite the fact that Celtic have qualified from the group stages for the last two years. Unfortunately the Gers are not competing in Europe because they failed to over come that European powerhouse Kanus from Latvia.

Neil Lennon, the Celtic first team coach landed in hospital after being assaulted by two unknown attackers after the latest Old Firm match. He ended up unconscious and in hospital and there have been suggestions he also swallowed his tongue and this could have been a fatality. Gers fans don't care because he is a Northern Irish RC and they simply don't like anybody like that.

In retaliation some misguided Celtic fans on internet forums have threatened to attack the Gers player Nacho Novo, Rangers RFC are outraged and have called for 24 police protection and an investigation unto this outrageous behavior.

Tell me something if Celtic had won the first OF game of the season and were 3 points ahead do you not think we would be getting carried away by claiming we had already won the league?

Tell me something if Ally MCoist life had genuinely been put in danger by a couple of Celtic thugs, I reckon Alex Sammond would have signed the papers to have a pogrom in the Gorballs?

Is this justice? If this had happened to Ally, I would have been ashamed and disgusted as a Celtic fan, but Neil Lennon seems to be fair game?

Scotland’s shame when will you Gers fans ever admit that is Celtic fans and even now coaching staffs who’s life’s have been taken or threatened by supporters of Rangers?

I've already said i expect us to take a tanking from both Man U and Vilareal, i thought that before Sunday and nothing i seen there has changed that.

I'd also agree that the midfield you have now is far superior to what it was last year(I'd leave Edu and Aaron out the equation at the moment as both are unproven as it stands).

Your defence is a lot weaker(Bougherra and Weir both lost their man umpteen times in the first half but will be punished if it keeps happening), and the problems up front will persist as Smith clearly has no idea how to utilise the players he has(Cousin being the perfect example, has twice bossed our defence and then gets punted despite looking like the best partner for Miller).

I stand by my comment that both teams are probably as closely matched as they have been in my lifetime, aside from maybe the season we reached the UEFA cup final. There will be a lot of twists and turns to come, and despite the players you have brought in, you still have glaring weaknesses. We got pumped, yes, but it could be the best thing that happens to us if Strachan finally gives Robson his chance at centre mid and gets McManus out the team for Balde. Asking a lot for the second part of my request mind you.....

I'll apparently break with habit and answer your question.

Obviously, I wish that we could have strengthened the team to better effect, but it seems that Celtic have a business plan which aims to see the club free of debt by the year end next year and the club is on target to achieve that whilst keeping wages below 48% of turnover (it went slightly over that figure last year but will be slightly below this year.)

On the one hand, you could say that we've missed a trick here ....we could have postponed the zero debt year by three years, borrowed £12m , brought in a couple of 'first team' signings and roared ahead.

On the other, we set this target some years ago, and a huge amount of effort has gone into making it possible.

This year rangers will be lucky to keep the loss below £12m, and they are already in debt substantially more so than Celtic, although , tellingly, Minty is keeping very quiet about that.

On balance, I would rather stick to the business plan...I would rather think long term than short term.

I still believe that we have the better players, that rangers have sold their only decent striker and that over the season, we will emerge again as champions.
It will be close again, but I take Strachan to be a better manager than Walter Smith , especially when we get to the business end of the season.

Didn't read todays sun so didn't get McNeills comments. His opinion on Bougherra may or may not be right but from what i have seen this season and what i have read about him previously he is not another Cuellar. Yes he has pace and a decent touch but he is also far too casual and tends to lose concentration. I counted at least 4 times in the first half when either Samaras or Maloney got in in front of him when we were on the attack. I think he'll suit you playing a more attacking game because his pace will let him track back and cover when out of position, but i also think he will struggle if the opposition are having a go at you!

Fromuefa, rangers received about £13m, just over £1m more than Celtic....that was for their champions league group stage and their run to the uefa final.

Anything on top of that is gate receipts and add ons, but none ofus know what the bottom line is on that lot.

The For Rangers to make £35m profit would require a turnover of betwenn £90 and £100m....Celtic hold the (scottish) record for turnover at £72m.

So whatever profit was made last year, it was nowhere near £35m. And it has to be borne in mind that the season before last , there was no champions league money (last 32 in uefa I think) and this season, £80,000 for the second round qualifier.

So, season 07/08 did bring some cash, but that has to be balanced with poor figures for season 06/07 and diddly squat for 08/09.

Would also point out that a lot of the problems Novo has had in the past(Death threats spring to mind) were nothing to do with football, and more to do with his personal life and particularly stealing his pals missus!

Leaving last seasons European revenue aside, since last January 2008 transfer money in to Ibrox, only the larger fees mentioned that the press reported.

Hutton 9mil
Cuellar 8mil
Cousin 1.5mil
Sebo 1mil approx

approx money in 19.5mil, less what ever financial side deals with players there was.

Money spent on players since January 2008 approx 20-21mil,

Hardly a huge net outlay and will not cripple Ibrox.

I think the tic survived after the Artmedia disaster, and so will we.

Wages (on long contracts) are not included in those figures of yours. Davis and Mendes will be on the highest wages at Ibronx because they were on very good deals in the EPL and would be unlikely to come "for the love of the club". Lafferty and Bougherra must be on very good money too and Edu would not come cheap either. I would say that just with those signings your wage bill has increased significantly. January will be an interesting time because if the money is tight, like it was last season, you may well be selling some of your best assets at the wrong time of year, like you did with Hutton.

Poor old timmy-he gets royaly humped and we see the usual mock offense and squeels to uefa(incidentally that e-mail address is useless in all honesty).
Must really hurt that the SPL observer never saw a problem.
Ther refs never helped them this week so who else can they turn to,whibble whibble
I feel your pain and I love every minute of it.

Wee Gordon will soon unleash Aiden McGeady and The New George Best (Summer signing whose name escapes me) on the wings.

And 4 in a row will be secured.

Wee Gordon for Sainthood

How do you know either? My rationale for Davis's wages was the fact that your club took so long to complete personal terms. He was on very good money in the EPL (player of the season at AV before his transfer to Fulham), so £30+ pw. Mendes would easily match that, but is more likely to match Capt. Fantastic (which he won't be very happy about). Bougherra was interesting several EPL clubs so again he must be on good wages. Afterall, if you buy a £2M+ player you must pay him as one too? Ditto Edu, especially as there is no wage cap here. Lafferty was reportedly wanted by several prominent clubs. He is an attacking player with some potential. You paid £3.2M for him. Do you honestly think that his wages are peanuts? Aye, right.

No complaints about result. Better team won due to a dominant second half. Thought Celtic were the better team first half without really testing the Rangers keeper. Hopefully it will be the kick up the ar5e Celtic need .

Great strike from Mendes, should have been shut down however, but he has a history of spectacular goals at Portsmouth and then very little else.

We shall see.
