CLYDE remain in a relegation dog fight following this thoroughly convincing win for Partick Thistle at Broadwood.
Both sides came into this encounter in relatively poor form but they still managed to produce a decent game of football. Four goals in the first half were evidence of this, though Thistle did score three of them to give themselves some breathing spac
e for the second half.
They went on to kill the game off late on but it was Clyde who took the lead as early as the tenth minute, when Craig McKeown guided Steven Masterton's free kick into the net. It has been nearly four months since Clyde won a game after going in front and Thistle weren't about to let that record come to an end.
On-loan Hibs youngster Damon Gray equalised only four minutes later, converting after Simon Storrey's free kick broke to him in the box. It was a great start to the game and it wasn't long before the visitors went to one up.
Again, it was from another set piece, this time Marc Twaddle's free kick deflected in off teammate Mark Roberts in 29 minutes. Ian McCall's men all but finished the game as a contest eight minutes before the break when Gray's intelligent dummy gave Scott Chaplain space to drive a low shot into the net.
The action after the interval was poor in comparison and Clyde rued a missed opportunity when Pat Clarke's effort was ruled out for hand ball. That would have set up a thrilling finish but, instead, Thistle made it 4-1 with 12 minutes remaining. Gray added his second of the game after running through to slot home.
