COLIN Montgomerie, the European captain, will watch the start of the race for places on next year's Ryder Cup on television after withdrawing from this week's Omega European Masters in Switzerland.
"It's been a demanding three-week spell recently with travel to the United States and the Netherlands and now here at Gleneagles in my role as championship chairman. I feel I need a week to re-charge my batteries," said Montgomerie after completing h
is final round of the Johnnie Walker Championship.

"I have been watching more golf recently than I have ever done and that will continue to be the case this week when I will avidly tune in to all the coverage of the Omega European Masters as the race for Ryder Cup points kicks off.

"As I said earlier in the week, I wish everyone attempting to earn a place in my team for Celtic Manor next year the very best of luck."

Montgomerie is delighted that the race is about to get under way, but joked: "If anyone mentions the word 'Ryder' to me the day after the match finishes, I will shoot them."

The Scot finished joint 31st on one-under at Gleneagles after ending his tournament with three birdies for a 71. While not unhappy with his performance, he remains less than satisfied by his overall form.

"There have been some plus points but some negatives as well," he reflected. "I'm still having difficulty driving and lost three balls this week, which is simply not good enough."

Poor Monty, I'm sure he's physically drained from all that support he gave to the Ayrshire workers losing jobs. Wasn't some of his time spent with the picketers at Gleneagles? Oh wait, that wasn't his issue was it? He must be exhausted from carrying that overinflated ego of his around!

Mackie were you picking up tips for when you play there soon? Which of the players impressed you most and where did your pick to win finish?

I liked the way Hedblom laid up at the 16th when Laur went for the green (and got it) They both ended up with 4s anyway, but it just shows that cool, calm determined play works!
Hey, get this - we (Me, Mum and Dad) are probably coming to Boston sometime in Oct for a few days and a round of golf somewhere!
Maybe you can advise US on some places to visit. We like to drive around are are thinking of Cape Cod!

Mackie, Cape Cod is usually very nice in Oct. although I wouldn't advise swimming in the cold water then. Falmouth, South Yarmouth, Dennis and Brewster have golf courses. On the way to the Cape, Scituate and Plymouth also have some. This week's tournament is called the TPC Boston but it's in Norton. Maybe you can google the area to make sure they're open to the public.
You could also see foliage in Massachusetts and nearby states. Boston is beautiful and very walkable. There are many things to do. Tell me some of your interests and I'll give you some suggestions if you'd like.

I gave you some towns with golf courses. The Country Club ( Ryder Cup and US Open)in Brookline is private. Nearby is Putterham which is open to the public. Granite Links in Quincy is another I've seen advertised.
I don't know any karaoke places but I'll ask around to see if any friends do. Boston at least has Duck Tours, bus tours, boat cruises, and Swan Boats if you can't do much walking. We also have many other things- aquarium, Fanueil Marketplace etc.

Cheers (no pun intended) As it gets nearer the time and we have more concrete plans I'll do some further research and keep you posted on some other thread.
We like music and driving around seeing places.
By the way, Dad can shoot lower than his age on the golf course!
