EAST of Scotland Cricket Association competitions convener Paul Bailey believes this season's Baillie Gifford East League Division One will go right to the wire.
And he is "delighted" by the competitive nature of the division, with five teams realistically still in with a chance of winning the title with seven weeks to go.

After Saturday's league programme was washed out due to heavy rain, Bailey said: "There have been some really close games so far and it is great to see how tight it is at the top. There are some crucial games coming up and it could well go to the final day." In general, Bailey has been pleased with the standard of cricket on show this summer, with a number of clubs having improved significantly since last term and many youngsters putting in impressive individual performances. This included a couple of weeks ago when 11-year-old Ben Wilkinson scored 47 not out for Dunfermline II's against Kismet.

The ESCA committee are close to deciding the June player of the month, with Grange III's Cameron Conwell in the running after two centuries in consecutive weeks.

Kirk Brae's David Sangster is also amongst the front runners after three tons in a month.
