CARLTON'S cricketers made it through to the final of the Murgitroyd National Twenty20 competition, but they will have to wait over seven months to play the match after it was washed out.
The Edinburgh side saw off Dumfries with ease in their semi-final at Poloc's Shawholm ground, but the match was finished in near farcical conditions with rain lashing the ground.

As a result, no final could be played and, due to Carlton and oppon
ents Dunfermline not being able to play in the next couple of weeks, it has been postponed until the first Saturday before the 2009 league season begins next April.

Carlton Twenty20 captain Jamie Kerr won the toss, though, so the match will be played at Grange Loan and he said: "There was no way we could have played the final yesterday and it gives us something to focus on at the start of next summer."

The finals day had got underway at the third time of asking with Dunfermline – who were promoted to the SNCL First Division on Saturday – tying with Clydesdale in the first semi.

Both sides scored 109-8 from their 20 overs, but the Fifers went through to the final as they scored quicker in their first ten overs.

Then it was Carlton's turn and they scored 141-5 batting first against SNCL Second Division side Dumfries. Fraser Watts top scored with 61, Cedric English chipping in with 28. Dumfries could only make 101-7 from their allotted overs, Charles Legget leading the way with two wickets and Mo Afzal, English, Ally Evans and Dave Robertson getting one apiece in the 40-run win.
