ABERDEENSHIRE and Stoneywood-Dyce created history on Friday by staging Scotland's first floodlit cricket match.
The go-ahead Granite City rivals attracted a crowd of several hundred to the final of the Malik City of Aberdeen Twenty20 Cup at the Dons' Mannofield ground.

Neil MacRae, coach of the triumphant Aberdeenshire side, revealed: "David Lamb of Stoneyw
ood and I came up with the idea and a lot of work went into making it happen.

"We managed to borrow several of the floodlights construction companies use for overnight work on motorways.

"It created a decent spectacle and the evening was a fantastic success with a great crowd turning up."

MacRae hit 32no and Saltires' Colin Smith 55no as the Dons overtook Stoneywood's 168 with two overs and six wickets in hand.

It was the home side's fourth silverware of the season following their SNCL first division title, the Sky Clubsport T20 Challenge and the second XI's Strathmore Union triumph.

Meanwhile finals day of the inaugural Murgitroyd T20 Cup could be hit by the weather for a third time.

Premier division Carlton and Clydesdale are scheduled to face lower league opposition in Dumfries and Dunfermline in the semis. But the event, at Shawholm, Glasgow, already postponed twice, is under threat again with further rain forecast.

If you were not there , then you missed out on a truly unique event.Approx 1500 spectators saw a great example of how to provide a high quality cricket match under floodlights. Once again congratulations to Aberdeenshire Cricket club in being first to deliver a floodlight cricket match in Scotland. It was a pity that the local & scottish news media could not have provided better news coverage. Excluding Scotland on Sunday.
