HERIOT'S booked a Scottish Cup quarter-final date with Uddingston after a convincing second-round win over Capital rivals Watsonians at Goldenacre yesterday.
The home side were victorious by 84-runs after a century from overseas amateur Jack Ritchie set them up for a good total of 266-5 batting first.
Watsonians, who have now lost three matches in various competitions since last Thursday, could only ma
nage 182 all out in reply, James Easton top-scoring with 65.
Heriot's skipper Gavin McIntyre said: "It was a good team showing after Saturday's disappointing loss in the league to Clydesdale. We knew that any score over 200 was a good effort and Jack batted really well."
The home side lost opener Dave Ross early on lbw to Andy Delmont, but fellow opener Steve Knox and Aussie teenager Ritchie then put on 72 runs for the second wicket.
Knox fell for 47, but Ritchie and McIntyre then built a 132-run partnership to get their side up for a formidable total.
Ritchie ended up on 119 not out, adding to his 102 in the first round against Dumfries, with McIntyre hitting 66.
Watsonians were always behind the required run rate in reply and Scotland A seamer Ali Farooq was the main man for Heriot's with the ball taking 3-38.
Heriot's now travel to Uddingston on Sunday in the last eight, while Penicuik are away to Forfarshire.
Meanwhile, Watsonians II defeated Heriot's II in the President's Trophy at Golden- acre yesterday to at least bring some smiles to Myreside faces as the firsts were struggling.
FAULDHOUSE MOVE UP TO THE TOP OF THE TABLEFAULDHOUSE are the new leaders in Baillie Gifford East League Division One after the top three all lost on Saturday.
Previous leaders Watsonians II were pipped at home by Grange II, Edinburgh Accies lost to Glenrothes and Carlton II were beaten by Freuchie II on a fascinating afternoon.
Those three results along with Fauldhouse's fine away win at Holy Cross means that the men from West Lothian are now at the summit.
David Allan was the hero for Fauldhouse as they chased down the home side's decent total of 236-4 to win at Arboretum.
Allan hit 74, while Shahid and Zahid Ali both stroked half centuries as they reached 237-5 in the 48th over. However, the home side were left to rue four dropped catches. Earlier in the day young opener Suli Malik hit a superb 127 not out for Holy Cross.
In the other top-flight match, Murrayfield DAFS saw off Heriot's II by 79-runs. DAFS scored 182-8 batting first with 66 from Raj Sampath. Heriot's II were then bundled out for 103, only Dave Ross offering resistance with 48 as Tom Wheeler got 5-17.
Wheeler's figures were not the best of the weekend though, in Division Eight Graeme Fraser took 6-20 as Leith FAB III's beat Kismet II by nine wickets.
Meanwhile, Drummond Trinity's Imran Khan has been named the East League player of the month for May with Haddington's 14-year-old bowler Matthew Blades taking the young player award.
