SCOTLAND'S cricketers were today handed the possible chance to bring down the mighty Australians in Edinburgh in the tourists first assignment following the eagerly awaited 2009 Ashes defence.
Details of the fixture schedule were announced today and they show that, in the same week that they are due to conclude the five Test Ashes series with England, they will begin preparations for a one day series by tackling the Saltires.

The fixtur
e has been arranged for The Grange on Friday August 28.

It will hopefully provide compensation for Scotland fans who were denied the chance to see skipper Ricky Ponting's side due to bad weather in 2005.

Then the ground was filled to capacity but not a ball was bowled due to persistent rain.

At the same time the clash will be the latest instalment in a fixture upgrade for the Scots who have a busy international summer ahead.

The highlight is a first-ever meeting with England in the Capital on August 18.

The Scots are also are lined up to face New Zealand, in Aberdeen, as well as a couple of one dayers against former World Cup semi-finalists, Kenya.

Next year's Aussie tour starts with a four day game against Sussex on June 24 with the npower Ashes Tests being played at Cardiff (July 8-12), Lord's (July 16-20), Edgbaston (July 30 - August 3), Headingley (August 7-11) and the Oval (August 20-24).

The tour will come to an end on September 20 with the final one day match against England.
