UNITED broke their duck with a hard-fought win at Somerset Park as Rovers tasted defeat for the first time this season.

The Kirkcaldy side almost went ahead in the opening minute when Iain Williamson's flick was cleared off the line by Ryan Stevenson following a Robert Sloan corner.

Allan Walker then embarked on a determined run in from the right flank, played a one-two with Gregory Tade and saw his firm shot held by Craig Samson.

However, United went ahead with their first serious attack when David McGurn failed to deal with Stevenson's cross and Kenny Connolly managed to stab the ball over the line from four yards.

Tade found himself clean through moments later, but Samson preserved the Honest Men's lead with a fine save.
