PRESTON Athletic secretary Andrew Waddell insists the SFL hopefuls are only 'three players' away from being able to mount a serious push for Third Division promotion.
The Prestonpans-based club are bidding, along with Spartans, Edinburgh City, Annan Athletic and Cove Rangers, to replace Gretna in the league next season.

Their fate will be decided in a crucial vote by the 29 remaining members clubs at Hampden tomorrow and retired referee Waddell believes Preston would make the Third Division more competitive.

He said: "We reckon we need three or four more players to be challenging at the top of the Third Division.

"With the current squad, I think we would survive quite nicely. To make a serious bid, we would need to strengthen it."
