Montrose opened the scoring inside 11 minutes as John Baird finished from close range.
Steven MacKay equalised three minutes before the break with a free kick but Montrose went back in front in the 69th minute with a John Baird penalty before Paul Kaczan's 89th minute leveller.
A stunning volley from Jay Stein in stoppage time won it for Montrose.

The hosts went ahead after 28 minutes when Stephen McConnalogue finished from close range and added a second in the 75th minute. Alex White scored with a powerful header from a Andy Gibson corner.
Gibson was again the provider for Stranraer's third as his cross was tapped in by Ian Dobbins two minutes from time.
