Scottish Cup 4th round draw: Irvine Meadow set for Easter Road clash

JUNIOR side Irvine Meadow have been handed a visit to SPL high-fliers Hibernian in the fourth round of the Active Nation Scottish Cup.

The Ayrshire team beat Arbroath on Saturday to set up a trip to Easter Road to face the side sitting third in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Hamilton play host to cup holders Rangers, while Tony Mowbray's Celtic will travel to either Morton or Dumbarton.

But the pick of the draw is arguably Aberdeen v Hearts, with both SPL clubs having recorded wins at the weekend.

Elsewhere, Kilmarnock host Falkirk in the other all-SPL tie, while Dundee United face a tricky tie against First Division promotion contenders Partick Thistle.

Irvine Meadow general manager Iain McQueen welcomed the "tremendous" draw for the only junior side left in the competition.

Meadow, who are in a mid-table position in the Stagecoach West of Scotland Super League Premier Division, beat Irn-Bru Second Division Arbroath 1-0 following earlier wins over Selkirk and Brora Rangers.

"It couldn't have worked out much better for us," McQueen said.

"To go to a Premier League club, especially one of Hibs' calibre, is a tremendous feat for our club."

All the matches will take place on January 9 except for Rangers' trip to New Douglas Park, which will be shown live on Sky Sports with a 12.15pm kick-off the following day.

Rangers famously lost to Accies in the Scottish Cup in 1987 when Adrian Sprott scored the only goal against Graeme Souness' side at Ibrox, but Hamilton lost 5-1 in Govan in the quarter-finals last term.

Elsewhere, Motherwell face a trip to Inverness, whom the Lanarkshire side beat 3-2 after extra-time in the Co-operative Insurance Cup earlier this season.

Ties are to be played over the weekend of 9 January.

Interesting draw. At least 3 SPL teams (Hamilton or Rangers, Aberdeen or Hearts, Kilmarnock or Falkirk) will be out of the last 16. Will both ICT and Ross Co be allowed to play at home on the same day?

Hope to see Morton humiliate Celtic (assuming we can overcome Dumbarton first of course). About time we had a major shock in the cup. Buy shares in Dettol, as massive amounts will be needed to clean the Wee Dublin End after the manky mob have been using it. We last won the cup in 1922 by beating the other half of the bigot brothers in the final. About time we did it again.

Interesting draw foir the Edinburgh clubs. Hibs and Irvine Meadow have similar records in the tournament. Aberdeen have an outstanding record but haven't done a great deal since the end of the Ferguson era.

I think it will be close but both Edinburgh sides will be in the draw for the 4th round.

#8 I can see Hibs getting through but Hearts will struggle at Pittodrie.Rangers will eventually overcome Hamilton (if they still have eleven players in January)and the record SC winners,Celtic will coast into the next round against Dumbarton....I expect St Mirren,Killie and the Arabs to join them.

That's Stirling Albion left in the mire. Debt-ridden, the hope was that an away draw against SPL opposition would have brought much-needed cash to pay off Stirling Council who are owed £70k-£80k. With due respect to the punters at Cliftonhill, the tie is not going to be a money-spinner.

Got to admit, Waspy, that a very average Celtic bombarded your lot that night and were robbed. It was definitely a penalty though.

If Hearts win the cup then hat off to them, their fans deserve something to shout about.

Difficult times financially for Rangers last year but a very good manager ensured that we still won the title under those circumstances.

A FOOTBALL player and soldier was due to arrive back from Afghanistan today after being injured by a roadside bomb on Friday.

David Etale, a striker for city-based Spartans, was one of three soldiers wounded in the attack. It is thought the other two casualties were also from 3 Rifles, which is based at Redford Barracks.

Hope you recover soon David and I am sure every football follower in Scotland wishes you all the best

Probably a hint of jealousy in that he's not banging in the goals.

He often looks uninterested, just like Berbatov at Man Utd. Just there for the paycheck. Not the type of player you want in the team.

Do you think Hearts and Rangers have troubles?? Four years after being made redundant I am now classified as skint.
Got money tucked away which I cant touch but the wife has raided the box under the mattress and its looking desperate. Could flog my old tools but like a lot of players the are well past their sell by date and nobody wants them or me not with the cheap shiny new ones on the market.

What a relief to hear from you Rolland. Sick of flicking through garbage posts about a hopeless team and a disgraceful club.

I really, truly wish that the three Scottish clubs which celebrate their Irish roots would move there and leave the rest of to play each other and celebrate our Scottish heritage.

Anyway, enough of that. Aberdeen had the wood over us for years in the SC but no longer. We will be in the draw for the 4th round and the double will be very much on the cards.

Hibs will be in the hat too but that will simply be prolonging the agony for them.

So tonight Irvine Meadow are the envy of Scottish Football, having been drawn to play at Easter Road, a place the scottish cup has failed to visit for 108 years. When they won it there fans turned up on horse back, we hadn't even invented the wheel.

Whilst Hibernian should be far too strong for Irvine Meadow from the Western Junior league,the latter proved a point against Arbroath that the best Junior sides can compare with the senior leagues lower clubs and I am sure there was a pre season friendly between Arniston Rangers and one of the East of Scotland clubs (a few years ago now)and the Juniors put seven past them!
Linlithgow Rose did over Spartans not so long ago.
It will be interesting to see how Edinburgh City fare against Montrose! That could be a banana skin I suspect also.

This introduces the romance of the giant killers dream into Scottish football and was the best move ever made by the SFA/SJFA.I would love to see all non league and juniors now afforded Regional Division Five status which is surely the next logical step. We have hundreds of clubs in Scotland so lets stop trying to be a two club nation or we will be! Let the game flourish and grow wherever it happens.
One of the best days I recall was seeing Gretna appear in a final and they did NOT look out of place! The worst was watching them collapse partly because of a stupid decision to play at Motherwell with no fans almost at all, and I wont remind anyone of the other factors.

Go for it City (with appologies to Montrose supporters)

Still trying to get into the comments mainline stories ie Mike Russell affair,have tried Gaelic ,tried health sent a comment nae bother atall, now trying sport.

Whatever is going on at the Scotsman end suggests chaos reigns.Not only have \I paid for a premium of £29.95 and know ithas been transferred to the Scotsman ,when I press the premium indicator it then invites me to pay another premium,just when I thought things could not deteriorate any further they have.
In fact I went through the "system" yesterdayfollowed the procedure and here we are completing the circle.
Is ther any body theeeeeeeeeeeeeere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
