Motherwell 1MOTHERWELL brought their pre-season trip to Austria to an end with a defeat against their Romanian opponents in searing heat. Manager Mark McGhee gave run-outs to trialists Mark Le Rande, Jim O'Brien, Lenny Pidgeley and Angel Robles, but the Romanians seized control when they scored twice within the space of two second-half minutes. The impressive David Clarkson pulled one back for Motherwell in 53 minutes. McGhee said: "It was roasting but overall we've had a good week over here."

Alloa Athletic 3ALLOA cruised to a comfortable victory over a disappointing Berwick side at Shielfield. A 40th minute Steve McKeown penalty set Allan Maitland's side on their way before goals from Joe Andrew and Iain Campbell secured the win.
Elsewhere, Forfar lost 2-1 at Inverurie Locos, Stranraer won the Scottish Brewers Cup with a 3-0 win over hosts Annan Athletic at Galabank, Stenhousemuir won 1-0 at Skelmersdale United and East Stirling drew 1-1 at Retford United.

Wolves 1DUNDEE suffered their first defeat of pre-season after a last-minute goal from Wolves' Sylvan Ebanks-Blake yesterday. A disappointing game looked to be petering out to a stalemate but a series of defensive mistakes allowed the Englishman to score a late winner. The hosts fielded Jim Lauchlan, who signed a one-year deal prior to kick-off, as well as former Rangers midfielder Makhtar N'Diaye, who joined goalkeeper Rab Douglas in being listed as a trialist.

Sunderland XI 3HIGHLY-RATED teenager Martyn Waghorn scored twice as a youthful Sunderland side eased to victory at Gayfield. Waghorn, who faced Manchester United last season aged just 17, opened the scoring before Bryan Scott levelled for the hosts. Further goals from Waghorn and Jordan Cook sealed the win for Roy Keane's youngsters. Arbroath manager John McGlashan said: "In a few years' time my lads will watch Match of the Day and say: 'I played against that boy'. That's the kind of test this game was. We have to take heart from it."
