DUNDEE United signed off their Irish tour with a 3-2 win against Tolka Rovers last night but only after surviving a major scare at the hands of the part-timers.
Dean Kelly gave Tolka the lead after only three minutes and even though Lee Wilkie equalised with a header, a defensive lapse allowed Alan Connor to put his side ahead for a second time right on the break.

With defeat a real possibility, Wilkie netted again with eight minutes remaining before substitute Noel Hunt grabbed his second in as many games with a close-range header.

Kelly took advantage of some sloppy defending to slam a shot beyond debutant Michael McGovern in the United goal, before Wilkie started and finished the move that brought the equaliser on 13 minutes.

Things went awry for United right on half-time when a defensive mix-up allowed Connor to break free and slot the ball beyond McGovern. United were spared going 3-1 behind when David Lacy's strike was ruled out for offside, and it took goals from Wilkie and substitute Hunt in the final eight minutes to salvage victory.

If Tolka had a goal disallowed for offside after a Unitd player deflected it into his own net, then their manager would be entitled to say his team were cheated.

Good luck for the season ahead, I hope the SPL fixture list isn't too demanding for you this time.

United, rubbish as usual.

They only have about two or three decent games in them per year.

Spot the bitterness, oh dear.

It was a reat atmosphere. I made the journey the motorway & the atmosphere was 1st class. Great to be so close to the action & to see a few of the new boys up close. Scott Robertson. Shala & Kevin Smith put in good shifts. Was surprised at new keeper McGovern: he looked a tad wee & there were a few anxious looks exchanged between coaches on the benches on more than one occasion.

You could tell it was only their 2nd pre-season game. Onward & upward.

#3 and #4 if the player hadn't have been offside and if the ball had obviuosly come off the defender then the ref had ignored all sense and disallowed the goal then we'd be in a similar situation especially if he'd denied a stonewall penalty then later booked a played for miming dissent...t*sser mccurry...
