Third Division: Methil men forced to wait

EAST FIFE could be crowned champions tomorrow evening, despite their celebrations being put on ice as they were held to a goalless draw by Albion Rovers on Saturday as their nearest challengers Stranraer fell 23 points behind them after losing 3-0 to Arbroath. The Fifers will clinch the title if the Stair Park side do not beat Albion tomorrow.

East Fife manager Dave Baikie said: "I don't know what I will do if we win it without playing on Tuesday. But I will be quite happy if we have to wait until Saturday."

The Fifers could not break down Albion Rovers despite coming close when Coatbridge defender Ciaran Donnelly headed against his own post attempting to clear a Paul Stewart cross. And Stewart also hit the bar with a curling free-kick.

Montrose manager Jim Weir was happy as his side held on to third place with a 2-0 win over East Stirlingshire with goals from Gary Wood and Paul Stewart. "We got in front and, although a bit nervous, wrapped up the points," said Weir.

But Stenhousemuir manager John Coughlin was furious after Darren Shallicker's stoppage-time leveller earned Elgin City a 2-2 draw. "We lost two ridiculous goals," he said.
