EDINBURGH CAPITALS' hopes of landing ice hockey silverware hit the skids last night when they were beaten 8-5 by revenge- seeking Dundee Texol Stars.
Slovakian sniper Martin Cingel bagged a treble and rising star Iain Bowie claimed a double but Stars had the edge over the back-to-back weekend clashes in the Scottish Premier League play-off, semi-final.

Stars now face arch rivals Fife Flyers, wh
o thrashed Solway Sharks 8-0 last night after drawing the first-leg in Dumfries 3-3 on Saturday.

Motivation was not required as Stars are still smarting from back-to-back early season league defeats and the Tayside team imposed themselves early in the two-leg affair.

They won Saturday's opening tussle 6-2 and built a platform with a 3-0 first period scoreline. They drew the second stanza 2-2 and won the third 1-0.

Barry Carnegie, John Dolan, Kris Petrie, former Capitals forward Iain Robertson, Liam Greig and John Haig all netted while Neil Hay and Bowie counted for the visitors.

Last night, Stars went on the offensive from the off and won the opening session 3-1. They kept up the pressure with a 4-3 middle period scoreline and drew the third 1-1.

Dolan top scored with three while Haig weighed in with a double and there were singles from former Capitals defenceman Jeff Marshall, Greig and Gordon Latto.
