MARK GARSIDE today became Edinburgh Capitals' first summer signing after committing himself to a third season with the Edinburgh outfit.
The East Kilbride-based forward has made steady progress as a player in the previous two years. And Doug Christiansen, Capitals' recently re-signed director of hockey, sees the young Scot as a key cog in his bid to take the club up the Elite League t
able from last season's finishing position of eighth.

Garside made 43 appearances during season 2006/7 for the Murrayfield men. He failed to find the net but collected eight assists. The 19 year-old's haul last season was considerably better. Garside made 59 appearances scoring five goals and collecting 17 assists.

The 5ft 9in player also made his Great Britain debut under national coach Paul Thompson and earned praise from around the country for his performances.

Capitals' general manager Scott Neil said: "Mark is a real asset to the squad and we're delighted to have him with us next season."

Garside was wanted by other clubs but explained his decision to stay put. "I gained a lot of experience last year by playing regularly and Edinburgh are the only team that can really offer the same sort of ice time next season."
