HIBS boss Mixu Paatelainen today insisted he would have no fears over asking Sol Bamba to fill the gap left by Chris Hogg this weekend – but played his cards close to his chest over a possible line-up for the visit of Hearts.
The Easter Road side are likely to have a central defensive partnership of Bamba and skipper Rob Jones for Sunday's derby match after losing Hogg to illness earlier this week.

Hogg has been ruled out of the match on medical advice after suffering headaches and blurred vision following a head knock he sustained in the Co-operative Insurance Cup defeat against Morton in August.

Bamba has been played in midfield for Hibs since signing in the summer but played in the centre of defence for his old club Dunfermline. Paatelainen said: "There is nothing we can do about losing Chris, those are the doctor's orders and we have to stick by them, just like we would with any other injury.

"Sol is a quality player and very committed. Supporters like to see players who win their battles whether it is in the air or on the pitch and Sol is certainly one of them. We have played him in midfield recently but his position with Dunfermline was in the centre of defence

"We know that he can play in there and his height gives us something in the air as well."

The Easter Road side played three up front in their last league outing against Aberdeen a fortnight ago, a game in which Derek Riordan netted a double to send Hibs home with all three points.

However Paatelainen was refusing to give away too much about his line-up for this weekend and added: "There are always two sides to every game, everyone talks about the goals that have been scored but it is also very important that we defend well.

"We played three up front against Aberdeen in our last match, but this weekend is a different game altogether.

"The most important thing against Aberdeen was that we won the game and that we were positive. In parts of that game we played really well, our players looked dangerous, they created chances and scored a couple of goals. But in other parts of the game Aberdeen looked dangerous and we have to make sure that we concentrate during periods like that."

The Easter Road side could have a number of derby debutants on Sunday with the likes of Colin Nish, Steven Thicot and Steve Pinau in line for a baptism of fire – and with Derek Riordan set to feature in his first Capital clash since returning to Hibs from Celtic in the summer.

However Paatelainen insisted that his players will not be fazed by the raucous atmosphere of the occasion: "When players go out on the pitch and are caught up in a game, they do not notice what is happening in the crowd. Yes, there will be a good atmosphere and the crowd will be trying to push the players forward but that is always the case, no matter who you are playing."

I can't really be bothered today, two weeks of absolute mince posted on these threads by eejits of the highest order.

Good luck to the Hibs on Sunday, just hope it's a decent game and doesn't revert back to the 0-0 days. And of course a Hibs win please......

Over to the eejits now...........

It's good that Sol is playing at the back. He's not a midfield player. He's big and strong and can surely cope with posibly the poorest forward line in the SPL.

Come on the Hibees lets stick it right up em and help send them the same way as Third lanark. Edinburgh will be a far nicer place without them and their horrible followers.

Mixu seems to suggest that three up front may not be appropriate for this game. If he goes with a four for example and bins the `diamond` midfield then that`ll increase Hibs chances significantly. Okay, Riordan may not have any defensive attributes but he can operate from deep and balance the middle as opposed to abandoning that area. Hibs hand over space in midfield with alarming ignorance and it`s about time Mixu/Park realised that fact. Play the `diamond` then we gamble away the midfield battle and thereafter it`s a bun fight based on luck.

#9 Nice angle .... at least you`re talking football. The Hearts formation is based on the percentages, very unlikely they will lose easily to any team. Maybe not so great on the offensive side of things but not a daft formation nonetheless. Oppositely, I tend to agree with you that Mixu don`t appear to read the game too well. There`s obviously goals in Hibs but we NEVER control a game ........ Hope that changes come Sunday tho !!!!

#2 It didn't take long Dood for the madness to start right enough. Tough game, don't even want to try and predict the result. Our midfield (Thicot excepted) are VERY lightweight, but we are VERY strong up front. Bring it on.

I didn't plan to go. If you're buying, I could always change my plans and meet you for a quick G and T.

Describe yourself and we'll meet up. I picture you as fairly short, smelly with a genital wart problem.

I've been told I look a bit like Cheryl Cole but slightly taller. I think we may have a future. It's always been my dream to marry a waste of space, unemployed, drug taking, shower avoiding, catholic hating, shirt lifting, jambo cheering, piece of sh!t like you. See you at opening time on Sunday. Big hugs and kisses. Don't let me down now. See Ya.

18 smasher,

You seem to be a bit mixed up by thinking he is a hearts fan, if you go onto any hearts threads you will find the same cockjockey spouting the same sort of mince at the hearts fans, he is only on these threads on the windup as he has no-one else to talk to in the house whilst his mum is entertaining another "special uncle".

bamba will be fine in the centre of defence, i see him more as a central defender than in midfield.
hope hibs go all out for attack on sunday, we need to open up the game early, if we can get an early goal that will put alot of pressure on a hearts side ,who dont score too many, to push forward leaving holes at the back for our, hopefully 3 forwards, we could do well.
although if we come out all attack and dont score,by half time or perhapps the hour, could leave us open for the sucker punch the hearts leave for derbys.

Bamba has played two games correct. How many of those have Hibs won?

no cheating, keep your mittens and orthopaedic shoes on!

ok, I'll tell you. It is two!

The man has a good record of wins per games so I am delighted he will start on Sunday!

Maybe someone will read this tomorrow and post a comment. Please read this reasoned view.

Given the state of both our teams I predict the following:

There will be crowd of 17,132 with 174,302 watching it on Satan TV.

Bamaba will be sent off in the 7th minute for his second yellow.

Miko will follow suit in 8 mins for his second simulation.

Rob Jones will head a clear chance into the Hearts fans from a corner with Kello (if he plays) laying on the ground and Neilson (if he plays) standing on top of Deeks on the 18 yard line at the 23 minute mark.

Driver will plough through the Hibernian FC defence on 37 minutes and produce a most magnificent cross that will knock Mixu's pie out of his hand.

On the 44 minute mark, Victor, Johnny Jambo, Scorchio et al will cream themselves as a life size poster of Vlad is paraded around the ground. They will fall on their knees with the other 11 believers who are gullible enough to renew their season tickets and say " All hail the saviour".

The second half will begin with Hibernian FC in attacking mode (now that Mixu has decided to change the diamond formation and bring on Deeks, Fletch and big Nish).

The final score (in my humble opinion will be a consrvative 5-4 to Hibernian FC) I know it's daft to make predictions for a derby but I could have been silly and said 3-0 couldn't I?)

To end, I think Heart of Midlothian will be in administration at 2107hrs tonight.
