EDINBURGH Scotwaste Monarchs have rejected a provisional date offered by Birmingham Brummies for the first leg of speedway's Premier Trophy final at Perry Barr next month.
Brummies boss Graham Drury wanted to stage the opening tie on Wednesday, July 16, with the return at Armadale two days later but Monarchs, who qualified for the final after knocking out Reading Racers in the semi-finals on Monday, have declined as it
comes at the end of the Capital club's southern tour.
Monarchs chairman Alex Harkess said: "We are at the Isle of Wight the previous evening, which closes our tour and we certainly don't want to go into a first leg of a final under such circumstances.
"You are never sure what might happen on tours, you might get bikes not going, stuff like that.
"So Graham has gone back to the drawing board to come up with a new date which would be acceptable to us. But Birmingham will definitely host the first leg and are very keen to do so."
Harkess said there is no timescale as to when the Premier Trophy final has to be run and added: "I don't think it was staged until October last year but we are keen that it happens in mid- season when everyone is still fresh.
"If you stage it in October it tends to get rolled into every other competition and that removes a lot of the gloss from the event. I'm keen to see it run in July and I think Birmingham feel the same."
