CELTIC striker Chris Killen has joined Norwich City on loan for the remainder of the season after finding his first-team opportunities limited at Parkhead. The New Zealand international has started just two league games for Celtic since joining from Hibernian at the end of the 2006-07 season.
Killen, 27, arrived in Glasgow having scored 16 goals in 23 starts for Hibs but his time at Celtic has been hampered by injuries. He has a year and a half remaining on his contract.
Motherwell striker Chris Porter will become Nigel Clough's first
signing for Derby County when he moves south on transfer deadline day tomorrow. Derby pipped Championship rivals Cardiff City after both clubs agreed a fee with Motherwell – reportedly in the region of £400,000 – for the player.
Motherwell manager Mark McGhee said: "He's been a terrific player for us and I told him that. It's been a pleasure having him here. He has got a great attitude, he's a good pro and he is ambitious.
"The move's not been fully processed yet, but we've agreed a deal with Derby and he's agreed his personal terms and had his medical. We're getting slightly less from Derby than we would have from Cardiff, but there are other aspects which make it just as good a deal."
McGhee, however, still reckons Porter should have gone to Ninian Park.
He said: "I respect his decision to go to Derby, but I went on record to say I thought he should have gone to Cardiff and I stand by that. Cardiff are a team vying for the Premiership. Derby are a great club, but I think they are a wee step behind Cardiff at the moment.
"But he's chosen Derby for his own reasons. I think he feels he'd rather be nearer home than way down in Cardiff."
Porter joined Motherwell from Oldham on a Bosman in July 2007 and netted 18 goals in his debut season to help his new club to a third-placed finish in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. He has scored nine goals this term.
Doncaster Rovers expect to complete the signing of Dean Shiels from Hibs tomorrow.
Manager Mixu Paatelainen is keen for the Northern Ireland international to stay but is aware that the Easter Road club could command a fee now for a player who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Signed by Tony Mowbray from Arsenal in 2004, Shiels, 24, has struggled to become a first-team regular under three different Hibs managers and has netted 31 goals in his four-and-a-half seasons in Edinburgh.
In England, Wigan manager Steve Bruce has revealed a fee has been agreed with Newcastle for wantaway full-back Charles N'Zogbia.
The Frenchman has long been linked with a move away from St James' Park and is now refusing to play for Magpies manager Joe Kinnear after he mispronounced the player's name as 'insomnia' in a TV interview this week.
N'Zogbia is expected to complete a move to Wigan in the next 24 hours with Ryan Taylor moving in the other direction.
West Ham midfielder Julien Faubert has completed his loan move to Real Madrid. Faubert passed a medical in the Spanish capital yesterday. The 25-year-old joins Madrid on loan until the end of the season, with the Spanish club having an option to buy him.
