ST MIRREN defender Will Haining insists the battle for ninth place in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League is anything but meaningless.
Gus MacPherson's side head to Inverness for their penultimate game of the season today and will leapfrog their hosts should they win at the Caledonian Stadium.
Three points would secure the Buddies their highest finish in the SPL, at the expense of Inverness, and Haining admits that is a massive incentive. He said: "We want to go out and win as many games as possible. The aim this season was to stay in the league and we've achieved that.
"Even if Gretna didn't have their troubles I don't think they would have caught us. We've managed to overtake Kilmarnock and then the next target is to overtake Inverness. If we beat Inverness then we can go above them and that's what we're gearing towards."
Caley manager Craig Brewster said: "We don't want to drop a place. It's up to us to make home advantage count."
