JIM Jefferies believes the involvement of Alex Smith as advisor to likely new Falkirk managerial pairing Eddie May and Steven Pressley could prove a masterstroke.
The Kilmarnock manager worked with both May and Pressley as players, taking charge of May during his own spell as Bairns manager in the early 1990s and signing Pressley for Hearts in 1998. He believes the duo have the characteristics to prove successful if, as expected, they are confirmed as successors to John Hughes at a likely media conference on Friday morning.

However, Jefferies reckons the mooted appointment in a director of football role of 69-year-old Smith, the current Scotland scout and former St Mirren and Aberdeen manager, could be crucial.

He said: "Eddie's done very well with the youth side of the club and Elvis has got bags of experience as a player and has worked under some good managers.

"But it's not an easy job for anybody at SPL level and there's no doubt that if Alex is in there with them he will be able to guide them.

"He has so much experience from working with clubs in the Premier League and being very successful and he's also local to Falkirk. He will be a major help to them if that's the road they go down."
