JACKIE McNamara has signed a two-year contract with Falkirk where he will be reunited with his former Celtic team-mate John Hughes.
The 34-year-old former Celtic captain, whose contract with Aberdeen was terminated last month by mutual consent, passed a medical yesterday and will join his new club for pre-season training in July.

McNamara had hoped to extend his career by one
more season and move into coaching, but has been persuaded by Falkirk manager Hughes to concentrate solely on playing.

"It's a great move for me," said McNamara, "and I'm delighted to be joining up with John again. The set-up at Falkirk is really impressive and I think it is a club where I will be able to enjoy my football again.

"I'm happy to put my coaching ambitions on the back burner. Getting a two-year deal is terrific and I just want to repay John's faith in me by helping Falkirk continue to progress as an SPL club."

Falkirk have also landed freed Hibernian youngster Dermot McCaffrey on a three-year contract. McCaffrey, 22, was farmed out on a season-long loan to Livingston this term and the former Northern Ireland Under-21 internationalist does not figure in Easter Road manager Mixu Paatelainen's future plans.

McNamara will replace and help Tom Scobbie develop.

Dermot McCaffrey is another great sing. I hope he is best partner for Barr.

He's a likeable enough punter, so I feel awkward saying this, but McNamara is a waste of a wage bill. Riddled with injuries and totally powder-puff in the tackle, he was a average player in a good Celtic team and shown up thereafter.

Am I wrong?

#2 I would say yes, you're wrong (partially). I thought he was excellent at Celtic but had a lot of injuries. These have undoubtedly caught up with him. He's now a waste of a wage bill, as proven at Aberdeen.

Good luck to Falkirk they will certainly need it.

His legs have gone and he makes Russell Latapy look fast.

He also has a tendency to spit the dummy out if he gets subbed (for being rubbish).

Jackie McNamara was a Celtic Squad player for a long time, but always seemed to get his game due to injuries and suspensions to others, particularly in the Seville season. I cannot think of a time when he actually let his side down, he will be a good addition to Falkirks Squad.

McNamara's success at Celtic wasn't down to lucky breaks due to injuries...he was the captain - as far as I'm aware, not just anyone can pull on the armband, you have to be worth it.

Great signing for Falkirk and a great deal for Jackie so he can eventually progress into coaching.
