Published Date: 09 May 2008
HEARTS coaching staff have recommended Rangers forward Alan Gow to Vladimir Romanov as a potential signing target for next season, the Evening News can reveal.
The 25-year-old is one of several British players contained in a list passed to the club's majority shareholder in Lithuania.

As we revealed earlier this week, Dundee United's Mark Kerr is also interesting Hearts and is available on a free transf
er. Gow still has two years of his contract remaining at Ibrox and would therefore be likely to command a transfer fee were he willing to leave.

The football department at Riccarton believe he could offer a different dimension to their attack and have urged Romanov to make enquiries.

Gow has played just twice for Rangers since joining on a pre-contract agreement from Falkirk 12 months ago. He remains out of favour having appeared only in low-key cup ties earlier this season against East Fife and East Stirling. It is understood he may consider a loan move to re-ignite his career.

Hearts require to reinforce their attack this summer after several strikers left the club. Roman Bednar is expected to complete a permanent transfer to West Bromwich Albion before the end of the month, while Michal Pospisil, Andrius Velicka and Ricardas Beniusis have already departed for good.

Juho Makela is on loan until July at the Finnish club HJK Helsinki, where he has scored three goals in the opening three games of the Veikkausliga campaign. Hearts also hope to be able to call upon a revitalised Mauricio Pinilla next season after handing the Chilean a new three-year contract.

Interim manager Stephen Frail today reported mixed team news ahead of this weekend's match with Kilmarnock. Under-19 captain Ryan McGowan will play either tomorrow or on Sunday in Robbie Neilson's testimonial but Portuguese midfielder Bruno Aguiar must wait until next season for his first-team comeback.

Aguiar has not played competitively in over a year since his ankle was badly damaged in a training ground tackle by Julien Brellier. He recently returned for Hearts reserves but has now suffered a slight setback which has ended his season just as it was beginning. "Ryan McGowan is in with a chance because his knee injury healed quickly," said Frail. "He played well in the East of Scotland Shield match against Hibs on Wednesday night. But Bruno won't make it.

"He was hoping to play some part before the end of the season but he's got another slight niggle relating to the injury he had and we'll leave him for now.

"He's fine psychologically because he's had a game, albeit only in the reserves. It's just a case of him playing football again because he might not have managed that at all.

"With Ryan, we have two games this weekend with Kilmarnock in the league and then Robbie's testimonial. If he doesn't feature in one he'll feature in the other. He is one of the ones we are looking to push on and get involved with the first-team squad on a regular basis next season."

Jamboy,

Heartsadelica 09/05/2008 11:35:19
Yes he reportedly turned Hearts down, twice was it? but i think he would be a goo addition, Hasn't broken through at gers but as much as it pains me to say it they are strong in that area with Naismith, darch', Boyd, Cousin and Novo.

Personaly i'd like to see him and kerr join and i'd take McCormack in a second too

Just for the sake of argument... And yes i know it dosen't look good on this front but hear me out... Just for the sake of argument if we do get a Davies/McGhee type and make a few signings like Gow and Kerr then we will be in a good position to get back into Europe again... it's in Vlad's hands really so here's hoping it's not all lip-service.

Has anyone considered that we mave our new man already and he is identifying these players?...

More likely to be Shaggy though eh?... After Rodney's immature little hissy fit about us backing our man Frail.

Would be a good addition however i doubt we will get him.

I take everything with a pich of salt regarding Hearts and transfer/manager rumours, believe nothing till it actually happens.

I said months ago this is what would happen at the end of the season and all through pre season that stories would start appearing about us buying players and being linked to managers, in order to boost season ticket sales. Im not the only person that said this, so basically these stories whilst they might get us talking and/or debating mean nothing till they actually happen.

Ah the crucial words! "it's in Vlad's hands". As a long suffering Jambo. This is what it always comes down to. Will he be in a good mood or a bad mood. Has he been on the medication or not. Will Mini-Vlad stick his oar in? I'm afraid (and I'm sorry it's not going to be the first time you've heard this) until we get a proper manager with autonomy on team selection and player recruitment we will never progress. End of story. I'm afraid the early "BELIEVE" mantra has now become "HOPE" or for you religious types "PRAY".

yet another obvious name linked to a 'possible' move. there will be many more.

i would like to think he would prefer to play some football rather than waste away at rangers. would he come here though? who knows. the west coast media have already tried to put players off from joining us when their names have been linked to hearts. one of the hacks told riordan "don't do it deeks" when he was rumoured to be joining us.

Personaly doubt Vlad will sanction Gow or Kerr but i hope he does.

Again I think Niculae would be a good propect too.

Neutral Observer,

Alan Gow was offered terms but Hibs a year past January but turned them down for Rangers. Personally I was not that disappointed as he was not the kind of striker Hibs needed. Also John Collins' ability not to spot talent is now legendary. However, if we are going down that road I would like to recommend the other Kerr (a scorer at Tynecastle last August), Alan O'Brien (wing heeled legend), Clayton Donaldson and especially our penalty king Gatheussi. Oh, and maybe Guillaume Beuzelin would be 'revitalised' with a move across the city!

A comment first to my fellow Jambos.
I turned over a new leaf this week, I no longer waste my time by looking at the planks "posts".
It has been refreshing and quite interesting. So I recommend that principle to you folks.
As for Gow, I would exxpect us to be connected to just about every player under the sun.
However! The first priorrity remaainss for the club to appoint a manager.
Until that happens, I won't come out of my pessimistic mode.

Still, if anything came about of it would be a good addition but would rather the manager in place before player acquisitions (unless of course he is having a say in that already)
We need to bring in players who are going to battle for the cause and the players linked are these types. But as always all you can do is wait and see what transpires over the next month or two.

Lot of fans never took to him for some reason, i remember being absolutely taken aback by some friends of a friend vehemently making a case as to why Wyness should be played in front of him. Argument was based on Wynesses superior touch and ball control but... Goals is goals i wouls say and Andy's got them while Wyness just dosen't (one season at ICT or Aberdeen appart)

#48 Hello Lenny, at the risk of being called gay, as we were last week (I'd never do it with a Hibbee in any case, even if I were), are Aberdeen not an oddity in that basically 90% of their honours came in one spell.
Perhaps for Aberdeen we can read Alex Ferguson, it could have been anyone but they were lucky enough to have him.
Likes of Simpson, Cooper, Hewitt, Black did little after they parted. Strachan did ok, but even Miller and McLeish seemed to decline after he'd gone.

They have had less than 20000 through the gates for 2 games in the top 6 and had a poxy 14k at the semi despite every f***r up here proclaiming how they were already back in Europe.
They are a funny bunch up here, dont bother going to the games but everyone seems to be the biggest fan.

To be honest Hearts have a bigger support but the numbers can easily change, if Hearts have another couple of seasons like the last one and Aberdeen somehow managed to get a little spending power and finish 2nd and win the scottish Cup like we did then they would prob overtake us in terms of supporters attending games...

Prob similar overall numbers of fans but as Scotland's third and fourth most successfull football clubs we are both huge underacheivers in terms of trophies and so we lose a lot of fans through apathy towards the duopoly.

Hibs have a potentialy large support too but this will never be properly realised until they loosen the purse strings.

#85 Lenny, nae bad, thats a fair point unlike Muchacho at 80 odd who misses the point, but it is now over a generation ago. I think thats far enough back to discount that era as recent. Nobody left playing I dont think, and a fair percentage of their fans weren't born.
Early 80's was a different time for football and Rangers in particular were weak, Aberdeen weren't lucky but they were fortunate that Ferguson was in place to exploit Rangers weakness and were Celtics rivals. United were just a notch below the Dons but they regular did Aberdeen on a 1 to 1, on their day were every bit as good. As an Aberdeen boy, people used to think I was mental supporting Hearts (no comments please) but there is far more history, fabric and heart to Heart of Midlothian than Aberdeen could ever achieve regardless of how many trophies they racked up in a purple patch and I feel so happy I'm a Jambo and not a Don or I know football would have one less supporter.

Pathetic... Last season?... What about the season before that then? 2nd place and Scot Cup...

Jeez how far back do you want to go then?... Oh your pseudo answers that one for me... Perhaps Lenny's little observation at '90 can be applied both ways eh?

Story say that Hearts have "football department at Riccarton."

When do they start?

106

Chas Niceass,

IRK did it not start on 9th May 1998. 10 years to the day Hibs played their final SPL game and were relegated I believe, then what happened the week after?
Great day ahead on Sunday I think, 2 Scottish Cup winning sides on parade, I fear a Hibs testimonial of similar ilk would star Denzil Washington?

#95 Thanks for that bit info

I had been suggesting playing Makela a lot on this thread and got a bit of stick for it

Frail went with Mole and Elliot instead says a lot for his management skills

John Robertson wanted to sign Alan Gow for about £80k but Romanov said no. He negotiated a transfer for Lee Miller - Romanov said no. He wanted Burton O'Brien. Roamnov said no and by the way, how do you fancy being the bibs and cones boy next season while I bring in several Lithuanian directors of football and coaches above your head?

British players? No chance. Expect more Eastern Europeans or South Americans - or wherever Romanov and wee Pedro fancy a jaunt to. The people who sign the players have not got a clue about football, let alone Scottish football.

Have a good weekend one and all.

Nearly Three years now - Papers and message boards single out Scottish players that Hearts could sign - Twice a year actually ......YET IT NEVER HAPPENS !!!

Surely by now we all take these paper headlines with a pinch of salt. It is not Vlad's way to sign SPL players....the nearest he has ever got was to sign a Scottish player from England - Neil McCann - And that was for fan appeasement only.

Vlad will not even look at Gow never mind sign him - PITY too - he would be a good recruitment.

#117 Just some pathetic immature fool who comes on here every day pretending to be someone he isn't, for the sole purpose of trying to wind everyone up and half a cheap laugh to himself.
Don't you hate people like that??

While there's some trophy banter going on, lets not forget that Hibs were first to actually win anything - 1887, against the herts Johnny-Come-Latelys in 1891.

FACT

SC too. Nice wee irony that you're all obsessed with 107, but we were there first.

So, what with that, Europe, patenting Flair Football (TM), floodlighting, shirt-sponsorship, Brazil '58 owing it to Hibs, undersoil heating, starting sellick, Dundee Utd and the sheep, electrionic scoreboards, etc, etc, and enough celebrity fans to shake several sticks at, any neutral comparing Embra's football teams would look at herts, shrug and ask "why?".

Just as well Vlad's here to keep the interest levels above flatline.

I had forgot Gow was at Rangers, its all very well Rangers complaining about the fixture congestion but then you remember they bought all the other teams best players and stick them in the reserves.

If Romanovs word was good we would of had a new manager in by now to sort out who was going and who was coming into the Hearts. Romanov I see Frank Rijkaard is available he has all the experience required to do a good job for Hearts infact he has forgotten more about football than you will ever know. Get out there and prove to the fans what you feel for the Hearts. As far as I can see you dont give a shi+ for them.

Do you know of this player Gow? He has been recommended to Vladimir for him to sanction transfer.

He must be good player as he played for Falkirk.
