Published Date: 21 March 2008
HEARTS have continued downsizing their first-team squad by dispatching Ricardas Beniusis back to FBK Kaunas in time for the start of this year's Lithuanian A Lyga.
The Evening News spoke to the striker in Lithuania today, where he is already preparing for Kaunas' season-opening match against Silute a week tomorrow.

Hearts brought Beniusis' season-long loan to a premature end earlier this week after he was deemed surplus to requirements by senior club management. He was booed off during a nightmare Tynecastle debut against Hibs last August and never properly recovered.

In total, he made just one start and eight substitute appearances in Edinburgh and failed to score despite plundering 16 goals in 15 games as captain of Kaunas before his defection to Hearts.

Beniusis' departure follows those of Andrius Velicka, Linas Pilibaitis and Michal Pospisil since the turn of the year and further reduces the attacking options available to interim manager Stephen Frail.

"I am back with Kaunas now and I don't see myself returning to Hearts," said Beniusis. "We start the league season here on the 29th and I am looking forward to playing in that match."

Frail is consequently left with only three fit strikers for tomorrow's crucial SPL visit of Falkirk and is still digesting the news that wingers Andy Driver and Neil McCann are unlikely to play again this season. Driver tore his thigh at Love Street last weekend whilst McCann will undergo a weekend operation to remove a troublesome plate from the ankle he broke earlier the campaign.

Christian Nade's pelvic problem is expected to preclude him from facing Falkirk, meaning Calum Elliot and Jamie Mole are likely to continue their partnership in attack. Audrius Ksanavicius made a reserve appearance in midweek and should be available.

"Nade is very, very doubtful with this pelvis problem and we can't say how long he will be out for," admitted Frail.

Meanwhile, Hearts have made contact with their AWOL Romanian teenager Dumitru Copil, but the player is so far resisting attempts to lure him back to Scotland from his home town of Arad.

Renew my season ticket - Mr Romanov your having a laff !!

No wonder Copil has gone home.

Unlike #1 I am more inclined to look positively at renewing my S.T. with muppets like Bennyuseless getting the dunt.
We have tried the Lithuanian experiment and it has failed miserably. It may come over as a bit harsh this next comment, but it's just how I saw it...The perfomance by Benniusis against Hibs on the opening game of the season ranks as one of the worst debuts I have seen from a player at HMFC.
His departure does not weaken the squad.

Beni should never even have got near the hallowed turf of Tynecastle in the first place,i like thousands of other Hearts supporters would have given anything to get close enough of playing for the Hearts.I don't think Beni would even have got to sell programs pre Romanov.Common sense has prevailed!!!

#1. What does Copil have to do with it? What a stupid comment!

I feel a little sorry for Benni, he is not good enough but tried very hard in the reserve games I saw him play in, surely no-one likes to see a person sliding back down the career ladder in any walk of life. I wish him well.

Now we know why Makela suddenly came back into the frame.

The Gorgie Boys Are In Town,

He was a good player for the diddy team in Cows'ass but not anywhere near the quality required of UK football from what i saw of him briefly. Should never have been on the park for the Edinburgh Derby total mismanagement by the powers that be for that and the boos after his inept display where as much directed towards Romanov rather than Benni boy.

Glad he has departed and goes with best wishes for the future.

#13 Thank you for good wishes for Ricardas. I will pass on message when we supporters next share team bus with players.

But we are not a "diddy team". We have good stadium and play regular League of champions football because of winning league titles. That is a good team, do you not think?

The Gorgie Boys Are In Town,

21/03/2008 12:16:03
Denis in A-Lyge granted Kaunas are a good standard and have some quality players.

In Scotland though you would be battling against teams in the Scottish First division and occasionaly the Second division. No League Of Champions football for you then. Have you ever made the group stages of the Champions League for example at many attempts of trying.

No but maybe because we had half your squad at one time, completely over the top one or two yes fine worth a try but it just causes disruption to both our teams.

You are too kind.

FC Kaunas are at best a low to average side playing in a poor league. Their stadium is second rate as is the pitch they play on.

If I was to compare them to a Scottish side it could have to be Cowdenbeath, no offence to the Blue Brazil intended.

#25??? Do you often make ill informed comment?

Kaunas won league last year losing only 3 games and ended on 83 points with next team on 68. They have won the league 7 times since 2000 season.

It's not the best league n the world but is closer to the SPL in standard than SPL is to the English Premiership.

I said it before and I'll say it again...As much use as a c0ck-flavoured lollypop in a lesbian sweetshop!

Seriously i wish him all the best for the future but the guy never was and never will be the quality needed for Hearts to make a step up.

All the duffers seem to be getting the boot...In preperation for a new manager i would like to think, can't really see anyone coming in and saying "That big lithuanian basketball player?... I like him, I think we should build a team around him, and that Kurskis?... Legend!" "We need a solid foundation to build from the back!"... Next step has to be the termination of Kurkis' and Ivaskevicius' contracts.

There you go Pilton Serg', you have your wish!! Benni is coming home, now you and Denis can have 'Big happy' and 'make assault on League of Champions'... f4nny.

Seems as though Copil and Kostadinov have been completely mis-handled and that is only to our detriment if they then pop up at another club and become stars... vlad has mismanaged so much and i s'pose we'll never know what could have been now.

Well new era, get in McGhee or whoever it is and then lets just quietly go about our business until we are back performing at the level we expect at such expenditure.

Would that be a black or white rhino? Or maybe the Javan? (But they are very rare now so I doubt it)... Interesting thing about the white rhino is that it is the same colour as the black rhino but has a wider mouth, this was mis-translated as white instead of wide and... Nah sorry it wasn't actually an interesting fact at all.

I saw a reasonably good comedy film recently called Semi-Pro, it was about a 3rd rate basketball team set in America during 1976, I enjoyed it mainly for the nostalgia. However, the team in the film had a 7'5" Lithuanian called Vekadis (or something very close to that), he looked like Velicka with a moustache, maybe we need to get this guy in! lol!

The good news is Karapidis is struggling for Saturday. He sold the jerseys last week and is far too soft for a centre back. He has been an accident waiting to happen for weeks, give Ryan McGowan a chance.

#96 Aye just like your last attempt?? Two shots on goal if you were lucky and Banks never had to make a save??? I'll not need reminding you of your worst derby record in Europe?? Keep dreaming Hobo and if you get into Europe then please don't embarrass Scottish Football yet again?!

#96 hobo, you have won 1 out of the last 6 derbies.

mind you, in hobo fantasy land, that equates to hibs being on top.

hearts have won 4 by the way.
